OSTERVILLE, Mass. – A car struck a utility pole in Osterville around 4:20 PM on Wednesday, April 30, 2025. The incident occurred on Main Street near Ships Eagle Lane, leading to a series of responses from local emergency services.
The driver was evaluated at the scene by EMTs, but fortunately, no serious injuries were reported. The crash resulted in downed wires, which sparked a small brush fire nearby. Fire crews quickly responded to the scene, managing to keep the fire in check until Eversource could cut power to the area.
As a precaution, Main Street was expected to be closed between Ships Eagle Lane and Starboard Lane while investigations by Barnstable Police commenced to determine the cause of the crash.
In a separate incident earlier that day, Granville also experienced a significant traffic disruption due to a car crash. According to Granville Police Chief Rick Rindels, a single car accident occurred around 10:30 AM on Main Road, leading to the vehicle colliding with a telephone pole.
As of approximately 12:15 PM, police reported that the road would remain closed for an estimated 3 to 4 hours. Wires were knocked down as a result of the crash, prompting Eversource crews to respond for repairs.
The Granville Fire Department issued a notice on their Facebook page, advising residents that Main Road from the Town Hall to South Lane was closed due to the motor vehicle accident (MVA) and downed wires. They recommended using South Lane, Peck Orchard, and Route 189 as detours.
Thankfully, no injuries were reported from the Granville incident. Both events highlight the ongoing challenges that local authorities face in ensuring public safety and maintaining infrastructure in the wake of car accidents.
As communities across Massachusetts continue to grapple with traffic safety, these incidents serve as reminders of the importance of cautious driving, particularly in areas where utility poles and other hazards are present. Local officials urge residents to remain vigilant and report any unsafe conditions they encounter on the roads.
In Osterville, the investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available. Meanwhile, residents are encouraged to stay clear of the affected areas until they are fully reopened.
As the situation develops, both towns are working diligently to ensure that normal traffic patterns resume as soon as possible, prioritizing the safety of their residents and visitors.
