Car Crashes Into Tram Stop In Munich Injuring Seven

Authorities confirm three individuals are seriously injured as investigations begin into the cause of the accident.

A serious accident occurred in downtown Munich on May 7, 2025, when a car drove into a tram stop, injuring several people. The incident, which took place in the Arnulfstraße area near the Donnersbergerbrücke, left three individuals seriously injured, while the total number of injured has risen to seven, according to the Munich fire department.

Emergency services responded with a large contingent to the scene, where the seriously injured were transported to local hospitals. The fire department confirmed that there were no initial reports of life-threatening injuries and that no children were among the victims. The 52-year-old driver of the car, who hails from the Miesbach district, was unharmed in the crash and is currently under investigation for negligent bodily harm. Initially, police were unable to question him as he was being cared for by a crisis intervention team.

“It looks like an accident,” a police spokesperson stated, adding that, as of now, no other background information is known. Further details about the cause of the accident remain unclear, but a witness reported that the vehicle struck the waiting area at “very high speed,” where several people were standing, resulting in a loud crash.

The area around the tram stop has been cordoned off extensively, and authorities expect the closure of Arnulfstraße to last for at least two hours. As a result of the accident, tram lines 16 and 17 have been diverted in both directions between Hauptbahnhof Nord and Romanplatz, with detours via Rotkreuzplatz, Leonrodplatz, and Stiglmaierplatz. Unfortunately, several tram stops, including Kriemhildenstraße, Steubenplatz, Briefzentrum, Burghausener Straße, Donnersbergerstraße, Marsstraße, Deroystraße, Hackerbrücke, and Hopfenstraße, are not being served during this disruption.

Passengers are advised to use alternative routes, including lines U1, 51, 53, 62, 63, 151, and the S-Bahn. To assist commuters affected by the disruption, free taxis are being provided for the duration of the incident, although these taxis have limited capacity and will only stop at designated areas.

This incident comes shortly after another tragic event in Stuttgart, where a Mercedes crashed into a group of people at a tram stop, resulting in one fatality and several injuries, including five children. The Munich authorities are taking this accident seriously and have initiated an investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the crash.

As the situation develops, local residents and commuters are urged to stay clear of the area to allow emergency services to operate effectively. The fire department continues to monitor the situation, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

In the wake of this incident, the city of Munich is also preparing for upcoming events, including the annual BladeNight, which begins on May 5, and the Oktoberfest later in the year. However, the focus remains on the current emergency, with local officials emphasizing the importance of safety and vigilance in light of recent events.

As investigations continue, residents are reminded to report any further information regarding the incident to the authorities. The community's cooperation is crucial in ensuring a thorough examination of the circumstances leading to this unfortunate crash.
