A Dangerous Night in Monopoli: Car Crashes Into Bar, Suspects Flee

MONOPOLI - A tragic incident was narrowly avoided on the evening of February 21 when a gray Ford sped around the curve on Via Europa Libera and crashed violently against the outdoor terrace of the Boccadillo bar. At the time of the collision, customers were inside, casually chatting, completely unaware of the impending disaster. The force of the crash displaced the entire outdoor area by several meters, causing significant damage not only to the bar but also to a nearby Fiat Panda parked close by.

Witnesses recounted seeing two young men exit the vehicle and make their escape on foot as the driver quickly put the car in reverse and fled the scene. The crash resulted in broken plant pots and extensive damage to the bar’s structure. One customer, affected by the shock of the event, required medical assistance, prompting the arrival of an ambulance from 118. Fortunately, she suffered no injuries, but the experience left her deeply frightened.

Local law enforcement, including two cars from the Carabinieri, swiftly responded to the scene, collecting surveillance footage to identify the hit-and-run driver. This incident will be featured extensively on Tg7 on Monday, February 24.

Adriano Rivoli: A Legacy of Contribution

The community is also mourning the recent passing of Adriano Rivoli, who died on February 21, 2025, at the age of 90. Rivoli, originally from Faenza, arrived in Monopoli in 1956 as a specialized metalworker tasked with installing tanks for the Cigom company. His contributions to the region spanned from the economic boom of the 1960s to his pivotal role in local architecture and sports.

Recognizing the potential for infrastructure growth during the establishment of the Cassa del Mezzogiorno, Rivoli founded a company specializing in precast concrete, contributing materials for numerous construction projects, including sections of the Autostrada Canosa-Bari and various public works across Southern Italy. This enterprise supported economic development, creating jobs for many locals.

His passion for sports led him to found and preside over the Associazione Calcio Monopoli, guiding his football club to success in Serie C championships. Rivoli also dabbled in politics, serving as a councilor for the Democrazia Cristiana party and recognized for his sportsmanship as well as his integrity when running for mayor.

Though his company faced difficulties leading to its eventual closure, Rivoli’s legacy as a prominent and generous figure remains. The people of Monopoli will long cherish his contributions, which brought both progress and inspiration to the community.
