Canary Islands Weather Forecast Predicts Cloudy Skies

Moderate winds and stable temperatures expected across the archipelago

The weather in the Canary Islands on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, will feature a mix of cloudy intervals and moments of clear skies, but no rain is expected. The day will remain sunny, particularly in the higher elevations above 1300 or 1400 meters. While temperatures are predicted to remain stable, the winds will take center stage, blowing moderately with strong gusts expected in various regions.

According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), the forecast indicates a predominance of cloudy skies in the northern parts of the mountainous islands, with scattered drizzle likely during the early morning hours. Elsewhere, conditions will be partly cloudy, making for a varied weather experience across the archipelago.

Temperatures are expected to show little change, with a slight decrease in maximums in some areas. The winds, mainly from the northeast, will be moderate but may reach strong intervals in exposed areas and the summits of Gran Canaria and La Gomera. These regions could experience gusts that are occasionally very strong, adding an element of unpredictability to the day's weather.

On El Hierro, the forecast calls for cloudy intervals, particularly in the north, with the rest of the island experiencing more clear skies. The temperatures will remain similar to those of the previous day, hovering around 13 to 15 degrees Celsius in Valverde.

La Palma is expected to see low clouds in the north and east during the morning, with a low probability of precipitation. As the day progresses, conditions will tend to become partly cloudy. Temperatures will range from 16 to 19 degrees Celsius in Santa Cruz de La Palma, with moderate northeast winds increasing throughout the day.

Gran Canaria will experience cloudy skies in the north with scattered drizzle during the early morning. The rest of the island will be partly cloudy, except for the southern slope, which will remain cloudy early on. The forecast suggests minimum temperatures will remain unchanged, while maximums may see a slight decrease, especially in the eastern regions. Winds are expected to be moderate, with strong gusts possible in the northwest and southeast extremes, particularly in the afternoon.

Tenerife will have cloudy intervals with scattered drizzle in the north during the morning. The rest of the island will be partly cloudy, except for the southwest slope where cloudiness is expected during the early morning and again in the afternoon. Temperatures are predicted to range from 18 to 23 degrees Celsius in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, with moderate northeast winds that may also see strong gusts in certain areas.

La Gomera will follow a similar pattern, with cloudy skies in the north and scattered drizzle during the early morning. The rest of the island will be partly cloudy, with intervals of high cloudiness expected in the afternoon. Temperatures will remain stable, ranging from 18 to 23 degrees Celsius in San Sebastián de La Gomera. Winds will be moderate, with strong gusts anticipated in the eastern slope and northwest end.

Fuerteventura will have a predominance of partly cloudy skies, with less cloudiness overall. The temperatures are expected to remain stable, ranging from 17 to 24 degrees Celsius in Puerto del Rosario. Winds will be moderate from the northeast, with strong intervals expected in coastal areas.

Lanzarote will see a similar weather pattern, with partly cloudy skies predominating, particularly in the north during the early hours. The temperatures will remain unchanged, expected to range from 17 to 23 degrees Celsius in Arrecife. Winds will be moderate, with strong gusts in certain inland areas and along the east and west coasts.

As the day progresses, the sea conditions are expected to be rough, with winds from the north or northeast, reaching force levels between 4 and 6. Swells, including locally strong swells, will contribute to choppy waters, especially along the northern and northwestern coasts.

Overall, the weather across the Canary Islands on this Wednesday will be characterized by a mix of cloud cover and sunshine, with moderate temperatures and notable winds. Residents and visitors should prepare for a day of variable weather, especially in the higher elevations where conditions can change rapidly.
