NEWPORT, Tenn. - This Christmas season, the spirit of giving has shone brightly for families affected by the devastating floods across East Tennessee and Western North Carolina. Mountain Strong Sanctuary has stepped up to provide much-needed relief, donating 15 campers over the last two months to individuals who have found themselves without permanent homes due to the natural disaster.
Faced with the reality of their homes being destroyed, many families were left to navigate the dire challenges of temporary shelter options. Mountain Strong Sanctuary, formed after the floods, has focused on facilitating donations and resources for those impacted by the disaster. Their dedication has resulted not only in the provision of campers but also two cars, a fire engine, and toys for eight different families to brighten their holidays.
One heartwarming story came out of their Christmas deliveries. Curtis Hawkins, who has been actively involved with Mountain Strong Sanctuary, narrates the experience of delivering a camper on Christmas Eve to a family whose home had been obliterated by the recent hurricane. "I got to deliver a camper on Christmas Eve to somebody; it was going to a family whose home had been destroyed by the hurricane," Hawkins reflected. The family was living out of their car with small children, facing uncertainty on what the future would hold.
Thanks to the donation, this family was able to wake up on Christmas morning with the comfort of their own space. "I mean it’s the coolest Christmas present I’ll ever get to give that's for sure," Hawkins expressed, emphasizing the emotional weight of the gesture. The impact of these camper donations goes beyond just providing shelter; it offers families hope and comfort during what is often considered the most joyous time of the year.
The work didn't stop on Christmas Eve. Volunteers from Mountain Strong Sanctuary continued to deliver supplies throughout Cocke County on Christmas Day, proactively reaching out to those still struggling after the floods. All donations, including the campers, are free of charge to the recipients, demonstrating the sanctuary's commitment to completely support those affected.

The devastation caused by the floods has left many families with significant challenges, and the donation of campers has provided some immediate relief. For these families, the campers represent more than just temporary housing; they symbolize resilience and the kindness of strangers who are willing to stand with them during trying times.
This holiday season, the endeavors of Mountain Strong Sanctuary serve as a beacon of hope. The campers they've provided may only be temporary solutions, but they reflect the enduring spirit of community solidarity and generosity. Each camper delivered is one less family struggling with homelessness and one step closer to rebuilding their lives after the catastrophe.
