Camila Pitanga Returns To Globo In Emotional Role

In "Dona de Mim," the actress portrays a mother battling cancer while seeking a future for her daughter.

Camila Pitanga is set to return to TV Globo in the new novela "Dona de Mim," premiering on April 28, 2025. After her memorable performance as the villain Lola in "Beleza Fatal," the actress will take on the role of Ellen, a character whose story of sacrifice and love promises to captivate audiences.

In "Dona de Mim," Ellen is a devoted mother who faces the harrowing reality of a terminal cancer diagnosis while also discovering she is pregnant. The novela, created by Rosane Svartman and directed by Allan Fiterman, explores complex themes of family, sacrifice, and the intricacies of human relationships.

Ellen's journey begins dramatically during the wedding ceremony of Abel, portrayed by Tony Ramos, and Filipa, played by Cláudia Abreu. In a shocking turn of events, Ellen arrives with a baby in her arms, demanding that Abel repay an old promise. Years earlier, she had saved his life during a moment of crisis, and now she seeks his help to secure a future for her daughter, Sofia, who will be portrayed by 7-year-old Elis Cabral.

"Ellen is a fighter. Someone who battles with all her strength for life. Devoted to Nossa Senhora da Penha, her trajectory is radically transformed when she finds herself pregnant and diagnosed with uterine cancer," explains Camila Pitanga in promotional materials for the novela.

The preparation for this role was intense and multifaceted. Camila visited the Instituto Nacional de Câncer (INCA) in Rio de Janeiro, where she engaged with specialists and patients to understand the physical and emotional challenges faced by those diagnosed with cancer. She worked closely with Dr. Renata de Freitas and psychologist Rafaela Costa, gaining insights that would inform her portrayal of Ellen.

"It was essential to visit INCA to understand the processes of a patient with uterine cancer. I also had my life partner, Márcia, and my usual text study with Lisa Eiras. It was an emotional dive that deeply affected me," said Camila.

The character of Ellen marks a significant departure from Camila's recent role as Lola, showcasing her versatility as an actress. While Lola was a calculating villain, Ellen embodies vulnerability and resilience, representing a woman facing the dual challenges of motherhood and a life-threatening illness.

As the narrative unfolds, Ellen's relationship with Abel becomes central to the story. After discovering her terminal illness, she entrusts Abel with the care of her daughter, asking him to raise Sofia as his own. Abel agrees, incorporating Sofia into his family alongside his wife Filipa and their three biological children: Samuel, Davi, and Ayla.

The theme of a mother's love and sacrifice resonates throughout the novela, as Ellen's choices have lasting impacts on Sofia and the other characters. The story is poised to explore the dynamics within Abel's household, where Sofia's presence will introduce conflicts and moments of reflection.

Filming for "Dona de Mim" began in February 2025, with scenes that blend drama and lightness, characteristic of the 7 PM time slot. The interaction between Camila and young Elis has already garnered praise, with the team optimistic about their ability to evoke strong emotions from viewers.

Camila's transition from the role of a villain to that of a mother in distress highlights her range as an actress. The emotional depth of Ellen's character, coupled with the challenges of portraying a woman battling cancer while pregnant, sets the stage for a powerful performance.

"When I received the invitation, I celebrated like a goal! They are two creators I deeply admire. The atmosphere on set is harmonious and high-spirited. I am very happy," Camila expressed about working with Svartman and Fiterman.

In addition to the central story of Ellen and Sofia, "Dona de Mim" will delve into contemporary themes, reflecting the challenges and influences of modern society. The novela promises to engage viewers with its emotional twists and turns, making it a highly anticipated addition to the Globo lineup.

As the premiere date approaches, excitement builds around Camila Pitanga's return to the small screen. Her portrayal of Ellen is not just a role but a heartfelt exploration of motherhood, sacrifice, and the enduring spirit of women facing adversity.

With a talented cast and a compelling narrative, "Dona de Mim" aims to resonate with audiences, ensuring that the legacy of Ellen's character will linger long after the final credits roll.
