Cameron Waters Claims Pole At Sydney 500 Qualifying

Waters shows impressive form, setting the stage for intense race competition.

Cameron Waters has secured pole position for the 2025 Thrifty Sydney 500 qualifying race, showcasing dominant form with his fastest lap time of 1:29.1362s during the Top 10 Shootout held earlier today.

This performance placed Waters 0.2268 seconds clear of Broc Feeney, who had made his mark as the second-fastest qualifier. Feeney, who experienced understeer challenges at Turn 1, nevertheless managed to rise to the top just before Waters clinched the pole.

Waters' triumph marks his second consecutive pole position this weekend, highlighting his momentum after winning the opening race on Friday. Meanwhile, Feeney faced difficulties during the race with an early puncture, which contributed to his lower finish later on.

Chaz Mostert and Thomas Randle rounded out the second row for the race, demonstrating competitive speed but unable to surpass the blazing pace set by the front-runners. Will Brown, Matthew Payne, Ryan Wood, Andre Heimgartner, Cameron Hill, and Bryce Fullwood also secured spots within the top ten, marking themselves as significant contenders for the race.

Wood initially held onto the top position until being knocked down first by Randle and then by Mostert, who recorded his time at just 0.0009 seconds faster than Randle's effort. This close contest for qualifying positions set the scene for what promises to be another thrilling race.

What’s evident is the competitive nature of the Supercar Championship, where strategy and individual driver skill heavily dictate outcomes. With Waters' performance, anticipation looms over how he will translate his qualifying success to race victories as the lights go out at 7:30pm local time for the 200km race.
