Caixa Begins April Payments For Bolsa Família Program

The federal program provides essential financial support to millions of families across Brazil.

The Caixa Econômica Federal began disbursing the April installment of the Bolsa Família program on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, initiating a staggered payment schedule that will continue until the end of the month. This month, beneficiaries with a Social Registration Number (NIS) ending in 1 were the first to receive their payments. In a special provision, residents of Rio Grande do Sul also received their payments today, regardless of their NIS, due to the devastating floods that struck the state last year.

The minimum payment under the Bolsa Família program is set at R$ 600 per family. In addition to this base amount, several additional benefits are available. The Benefício Variável Familiar Nutriz provides six installments of R$ 50 to mothers of infants up to six months old to help ensure adequate nutrition for their children. Families with pregnant women or children aged between 7 and 18 are eligible for an additional R$ 50, while families with children aged up to 6 years receive an extra R$ 150.

In total, approximately 620,000 residents in Rio Grande do Sul will benefit from these payments today, marking a crucial support measure for families affected by the recent calamities. Furthermore, about 2.5 million families are currently under a protection rule that allows them to receive 50% of their benefits for up to two years if their income improves, a policy in effect since June 2023.

Since the implementation of Law 14.601/2023, Bolsa Família beneficiaries are no longer subject to the Seguro Defeso discount, which previously reduced their benefits. The Seguro Defeso is a financial aid provided to individuals who rely solely on artisanal fishing and are unable to work during the breeding season of fish.

On the same day, the Auxílio Gás program also commenced payments to families registered in the Cadastro Único (CadÚnico) with NIS ending in 1. This initiative is expected to benefit around 5.5 million families and is planned to continue until the end of 2026. The Auxílio Gás program aims to alleviate the financial burden of gas expenses for low-income households.

The Bolsa Família program is designed to provide financial assistance to the most vulnerable segments of Brazilian society, helping families meet their basic needs and improve their living conditions. The staggered payment system ensures that funds are distributed efficiently, allowing families to plan for their monthly expenses.

As the program continues to evolve, it remains a critical component of Brazil's social safety net, particularly in times of economic uncertainty. The government's commitment to supporting families through these initiatives reflects an ongoing effort to reduce poverty and promote social equity.

In summary, the Bolsa Família program is not just about financial aid; it is a lifeline for millions of Brazilians. The assistance provided today, along with the additional measures like the Auxílio Gás, demonstrates the government's awareness of the challenges faced by low-income families in Brazil.

With the ongoing payments and support measures, the Caixa Econômica Federal aims to ensure that no family is left behind, especially in regions like Rio Grande do Sul, which have faced significant challenges in recent times. As the month progresses, beneficiaries can expect continued support from these vital programs, which play a crucial role in enhancing their quality of life.
