BYD Unveils Stylish SEAL 5 DM-i Hybrid Sedan

The new model showcases advanced technology and impressive efficiency at Bangkok Motor Show 2025.

In an exciting showcase at the Bangkok Motor Show 2025, BYD unveiled its latest model, the BYD SEAL 5 DM-i, a compact sedan that promises to shake up the hybrid vehicle market. This new addition joins the ranks of BYD's growing lineup of plug-in hybrids, featuring a stylish design reminiscent of European cars and a powerful hybrid engine.

The BYD SEAL 5 DM-i, also known in various markets as the BYD KING DM-i or BYD Destroyer 05 DM-i, is designed to compete with established models like the Toyota Corolla Altis and Honda Civic. With a length of 4,780 mm, a width of 1,837 mm, and a height of 1,495 mm, the SEAL 5 DM-i is built on a 2,718 mm wheelbase and boasts a ground clearance of 160 mm. Weighing in at 1,620 kg, it also features a fuel tank capacity of 48 liters, making it a robust option for consumers.

The car's exterior is striking, featuring a chrome grille, Skylight LED headlights, and air curtains that enhance its aerodynamics. The alloy wheels come in two sizes: 17-inch with 215/55 R17 tires and 16-inch with 225/60 R16 tires, adding to its sporty appearance. The rear is equally impressive, with LED taillights and a sleek design that highlights the BYD branding.

Inside, the BYD SEAL 5 DM-i doesn't skimp on luxury or technology. It is equipped with an 8.8-inch digital meter and a large 12.8-inch touchscreen that supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The vehicle also includes multiple USB ports, ambient lighting, and a state-of-the-art audio system with 6 to 8 speakers. Safety is a priority, as evidenced by the inclusion of six airbags, advanced filtration systems for PM 2.5, and multiple driving assistance features.

At the heart of the SEAL 5 DM-i is a 1.5-liter Plug-in Hybrid DM-i super hybrid engine, producing 110 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and a torque of 135 Newton-meters at 4,500 rpm. It pairs with a front-mounted electric motor that generates 197 horsepower and 325 Newton-meters of torque, delivering a total system output of 238 horsepower and 324 Newton-meters. This setup allows for a swift acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.3 seconds, while offering an impressive all-electric range of 115 kilometers (NEDC).

The SEAL 5 DM-i is also designed with efficiency in mind, achieving a total range of 1,240 kilometers based on NEDC standards. Charging options include support for DC fast charging at 17 kW and AC charging at 6.0 kW, allowing the battery to recharge from 0 to 100% in approximately 3 to 3.5 hours. Additionally, the Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) feature enables the car to power other devices, adding to its versatility.

As the market for hybrid vehicles continues to grow, the BYD SEAL 5 DM-i is poised to attract attention not only for its design and technology but also for its competitive pricing. The vehicle is expected to hit the Thai market soon, following its successful debut at the motor show.

In a parallel development, BYD has also been making waves with the launch of the BYD Seal 06 DM-i in China, which is priced between 422,000 and 619,000 baht. This model features an electric range of 80 to 120 km per charge (CLTC) and has garnered significant interest due to its competitive pricing and performance metrics.

Recently, Bitauto conducted extensive testing of the BYD Seal 06 DM-i, which demonstrated impressive fuel efficiency and range capabilities. The vehicle was tested at a circular track, simulating real-world driving conditions, and achieved a maximum range of 1,207.1 kilometers with an average fuel consumption of 5.77 liters per 100 kilometers. This performance positions the Seal 06 DM-i as a strong contender in the hybrid sedan market.

The Seal 06 DM-i is powered by a 1.5-liter Plug-in Hybrid engine, delivering 101 horsepower and 126 Newton-meters of torque, combined with a front electric motor that produces 160 horsepower and 210 Newton-meters of torque. This configuration, along with a 10.08 kWh Blade battery, allows the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds while achieving an impressive fuel efficiency of 34.4 km/liter (NEDC).

BYD's commitment to innovation is evident in its hybrid technology, with the company set to unveil its fifth-generation DM hybrid technology soon. This new system aims to reduce fuel consumption to as low as 2.9 liters per 100 kilometers, with an expected driving range exceeding 2,000 kilometers per tank. The advancements in fuel efficiency are attributed to the sophisticated design and engineering of BYD's hybrid systems.

As BYD continues to expand its footprint in the hybrid and electric vehicle market, the SEAL 5 DM-i and Seal 06 DM-i models highlight the company's dedication to producing high-quality, efficient vehicles that cater to the needs of modern consumers. With their blend of style, technology, and performance, these vehicles are set to make a significant impact in the automotive landscape.
