On April 6, 2025, BYD officially announced the upcoming launch of its flagship electric vehicles, the Han L EV and Tang L EV, set to debut in China on April 9, 2025. These models are generating significant excitement in the automotive community, showcasing advanced technology including a 30,000 RPM motor, 1000V fast-charging capabilities, and the innovative "God's Eye" system.
Both the BYD Han L EV and Tang L EV were available for pre-sale starting March 17, 2025, with estimated prices ranging from 270,000 to 350,000 yuan (approximately 1,362,000 to 1,766,000 baht) for the Han L EV, and from 280,000 to 360,000 yuan (approximately 1,412,000 to 1,814,000 baht) for the Tang L EV.
The Han L EV is an ultra-premium electric sedan that boasts a remarkable maximum power output of 1,086 horsepower. Its dimensions are 5050 x 1960 x 1505 mm, with a wheelbase of 2970 mm. The design features BYD's signature Loong Face and a low drag coefficient of only 0.23Cd, enhancing its aerodynamic efficiency.
Power specifications for the Han L EV include a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) version delivering 500 kW (670 horsepower) and an all-wheel-drive (AWD) version producing up to 810 kW (1,086 horsepower). Both variants utilize the Blade LFP Generation 2 battery, with the RWD model offering a range of 701 km per charge and the AWD model achieving 601 km per charge based on the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC).
In terms of performance, the Han L EV reaches a top speed of 270 km/h, with real-world tests suggesting it can hit 305 km/h, and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.7 seconds. The vehicle is equipped with the "God's Eye" B system, featuring the DiPilot 300 suite, which includes LiDAR, front and rear cameras, and high-definition mapping, enabling Navigation On Autopilot (NOA) capabilities for both urban and highway driving.
On the other hand, the Tang L EV is a premium 7-seater SUV with dimensions of 5040 x 1996 x 1760 mm and a wheelbase of 2950 mm. This model also benefits from a Blade LFP Generation 2 battery, but with a larger capacity of 100.531 kWh. The Tang L EV offers a CLTC range of 670 km for the RWD variant and 600 km for the AWD standard version, while the AWD with an onboard drone system has a range of 560 km.
Performance-wise, the Tang L EV has a top speed of 265 km/h, with real-world tests showing it can reach 287 km/h, and it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds. Its interior features a premium layout with a 2+3+2 seating arrangement, front seats equipped with heating, ventilation, and massage functions, while the second and third-row seats can be folded down to create a cargo space of up to 1,960 liters at the rear and 136 liters at the front.
Both models are built on the BYD Super e-Platform, which supports high-performance features such as a power density of 16.4 kW/kg (22 hp/kg) and high-voltage charging capabilities. They are designed for rapid charging, with the ability to gain 2 km of range in just one minute of charging through a Dual-gun charging system.
The 46th Bangkok International Motor Show 2025, held from March 24 to April 6 at Challenger Hall 1-3 and Exhibition Hall 4-5 in Muang Thong Thani, has also seen a surge in interest, with total car bookings reaching 77,379 units. This marks a significant increase from 53,438 units in 2024, representing a 44.8% growth in consumer interest, particularly in the electric vehicle segment.
BYD DENZA emerged as the top performer at the event, securing 10,353 bookings, a substantial rise from 5,345 bookings in 2024, indicating a growing preference for electric vehicles among Thai consumers. Toyota, while overtaken by BYD DENZA, still maintained a strong presence with 9,819 bookings, reflecting a slight increase from 8,540 in the previous year.
GAC's brands, including AION and HYPTEC, also performed well, achieving 7,018 bookings in 2025, up from 3,018 in 2024. Other notable mentions include DEEPAL, AVATR, and CHANGAN, which collectively garnered 6,589 bookings, showcasing rising consumer interest in these brands. Honda recorded 5,948 bookings, up from 4,607 in 2024, while GWM's bookings increased to 4,959 from 2,825, thanks to new model launches like the TANK 300 diesel.
MG also showed improvement, with 5,910 bookings in 2025 compared to 3,518 in 2024, indicating an increasing acceptance of MG vehicles in the Thai market. However, experts caution that while the booking numbers are impressive, they may not fully reflect actual sales, and it remains to be seen how many of these bookings will translate into registered vehicles.
As the automotive industry continues to evolve, particularly with the rise of electric vehicles, both BYD's new offerings and the strong performance at the Bangkok International Motor Show highlight a significant shift in consumer preferences and market dynamics.
