BYD Launches Yangwang U7 Sedan With Cutting-Edge Features

The luxury sedan combines advanced technology with impressive performance and competitive pricing.

On March 27, 2025, BYD officially launched its Yangwang U7 in the Chinese market, marking a significant expansion into the luxury electric vehicle segment. This flagship sedan, priced between 628,000 and 708,000 yuan (approximately 86,500 to 98,000 USD), is available in both four- and five-seater layouts, as well as electric vehicle (EV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) variants.

The Yangwang U7 showcases BYD's innovative technology, including the advanced DiSus-Z suspension system and the e4 (Yisifang) platform, which supports a range of cutting-edge features. The vehicle’s design is inspired by the “energy crystal” concept, which reflects a modern aesthetic aimed at luxury consumers. The sedan is offered in four exterior colors and boasts impressive dimensions, measuring 5,265 mm in length, 1,998 mm in width, and 1,517 mm in height for the EV variant, while the PHEV variant is slightly longer at 5,360 mm.

One of the standout features of the Yangwang U7 is its “God’s Eye” A advanced driving assistance system, which incorporates a suite of safety technologies including three ultra-long-range lidars, five millimeter-wave radars, 13 high-definition cameras, and 12 ultrasonic radars. This system enables the vehicle to achieve L2+ autonomous driving capabilities without relying on high-precision maps.

In terms of performance, the EV variant is equipped with four electric motors that collectively generate 960 kW (1,287 hp) and a torque of 1,680 Nm. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in a remarkable 2.9 seconds, with a top speed of 270 km/h. The vehicle is powered by a 135.5 kWh BYD Blade battery, offering a CLTC range of 720 km. Notably, under DC dual-gun fast charging, it can recharge from 30% to 80% in just 20 minutes, making it a practical option for long-distance travel.

The PHEV variant features an additional 2.0T engine, marking the first horizontally opposed engine in China's automotive sector. This model combines the electric motors with a 52.4 kWh battery and a 60-liter fuel tank, allowing for a pure electric range of 200 km and a total driving range of up to 1,000 km. It can also charge from 30% to 80% in just 10 minutes using DC single-gun fast charging.

Additionally, the Yangwang U7's e4 platform supports advanced maneuverability features such as two-way 20° intelligent rear-wheel steering, parallel lateral movement, and a tank turn capability, enhancing the driving experience. The vehicle's minimum turning radius is a compact 4.85 meters, making it quite agile for a luxury sedan.

The DiSus-Z suspension system replaces traditional hydraulic shock absorbers with a magnetic suspension motor, providing a ride quality that has been likened to traveling on a maglev train. This system can adjust the vehicle's height and damping in real-time based on road conditions detected by lidar and camera data, ensuring a smooth and comfortable driving experience.

Inside, the Yangwang U7 features a luxurious “Star Ring Cockpit” design, adorned with high-quality materials such as Nappa leather and carbon fiber. A 12.8-inch OLED curved screen serves as the centerpiece, powered by the new generation DiLink 150 smart cockpit system, which includes a DiLink 4-nanometer cockpit chip and AI voice assistant capabilities. The vehicle is also outfitted with a premium sound system featuring 23 Dynaudio speakers, enhancing the overall driving experience.

For entertainment, the U7 includes a range of screens: a 6-inch copilot entertainment screen, a 23.6-inch instrument panel, an AR-HUD, and two 12.8-inch rear multimedia screens. Safety and convenience features include a digital rearview mirror, driver monitoring camera, and cockpit monitoring camera. The front seats offer extensive adjustments in up to 20 directions, complete with heating, ventilation, and massage functions.

In a related development, on March 28, 2025, BYD teased its new e7 model, a mid-class pure electric sedan. This model has a length of 4,780 mm and is powered by a single motor with a peak power output of 100 kW. The e7 is expected to enter the market soon, following its entry into the regulatory catalog of the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in January 2025.

The e7 will be available with battery packs of 48 kWh and 57.6 kWh, providing CLTC ranges of 450 km and 520 km, respectively. This model comes as BYD continues to expand its lineup of electric vehicles, having recently launched several new models including the Qin L EV sedan and the Sealion 05 EV SUV.

Moreover, BYD has begun offering discounts on three hybrid models in its Ocean series, aiming to clear inventory of older models. The non-Smart Driving version of the Sealion 06 DM-i hybrid sedan now starts at RMB 89,800 (approximately $12,360), reflecting the company’s strategic pricing efforts in a competitive market.

As BYD continues to innovate and expand its offerings, the Yangwang U7 and e7 represent significant steps in the company’s ambition to dominate the electric vehicle market in China and beyond. With a focus on luxury, performance, and advanced technology, BYD is poised to challenge established luxury brands and redefine consumer expectations in the automotive sector.
