On February 21, 2025, BYD officially launched its Fang Cheng Bao Bao 5 Intelligent Driving Edition, marking another significant milestone for the Chinese automaker. This updated model is loaded with cutting-edge features, including roof-mounted LiDAR and a new AI-integrated voice assistant capable of drawing, composing poetry, shopping for items, guiding tours, and planning routes.
The Fang Cheng Bao Bao 5 will be offered in four variants: two equipped with BYD’s proprietary God’s Eye intelligent driving system and two with Huawei’s Qiankun ADS 3.0 system. The introduction of these intelligent driving capabilities standardizes the entire Fang Cheng Bao line-up; following the launch of the Bao 8, which was the first to feature the LiDAR technology.
The pricing is set to attract varied consumer segments, with the God’s Eye variants starting at 239,800 yuan (approximately 33,000 USD) for the Max version and 259,800 yuan (around 35,800 USD) for the Ultra version. Meanwhile, Huawei’s Qiankun ADS variant begins at 284,800 yuan (about 39,250 USD) and can go as high as 329,800 yuan (approximately 45,450 USD) for top-level trims.
The Bao 5 also stands out with its interior features, which include Nappa leather seats equipped with heating, ventilation, and massage functionalities, as well as advanced audio systems composed of up to 18 speakers. The car boasts additional conveniences like a 4.5L refrigerator and sophisticated displays, including a 12.3-inch instrument screen paired with a 15.6 inch HD central control screen.
Beyond aesthetics, the Bao 5’s variants utilizing Huawei’s Qiankun ADS 3.0 will enable features such as autonomous parking, comprehensive collision prevention systems, and off-vehicle parking capabilities. One of the standout features allows the vehicle to park itself without needing the driver inside, as long as there is enough space available—just 20 cm from either side of the parking space.
BYD had previously announced its collaboration with Huawei for the integration of the Qiankun ADS, beginning with the Bao 8 model. Future contributions between the two companies are set to maintain this focus on intelligent off-road driving.
Meanwhile, BYD also unveiled the updated version of its Atto 3 electric SUV, which has undergone extensive design changes and enhancements to its Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). While the official launch date remains unconfirmed, the updated Atto 3 is anticipated to make its way to India, captivating potential buyers with its stylish refresh.
The updated SUV features revised front fascia with larger air intakes and new alloy wheel designs, available in 17-inch and 18-inch sizes. A redesigned roof spoiler now showcases dual brake lights and taillamps adorned with dynamic turn signals. Central to its enhancements is the God’s Eye C (DiSus 100) driving assistance system, boasting 29 sensors—including several cameras and radar devices—allowing it to navigate various high-speed scenarios and intelligent parking modes.
The Atto 3 maintains its previous dimensions—4,455 mm long, 1,875 mm wide, and 1,615 mm high. It also offers two battery options, with the 49.9 kWh variant delivering up to 430 km and the 60.5 kWh variant promising 510 km under CLTC standards. With competitive pricing ranging from ₹24.99 lakh to ₹33.99 lakh for its variants, it’s positioned to carve out significant market share.
But the crown jewel of BYD's latest technological offerings is undoubtedly the God’s Eye system, which promises to redefine autonomous driving experience. Unveiled amid great anticipation, the God’s Eye system aims to democratize self-driving technologies, ensuring affordability without compromising on functionality. The system is configured across three versions, with the high-end God’s Eye A capable of independently operating over 1,000 km solely on LiDAR technology.
Interestingly enough, BYD’s mode of operation seeks to sidestep the premium options common among their competitors like Tesla. Wang Chuanfu, BYD’s CEO, encapsulated this sentiment by stating, "Good technology should be available to everyone." This philosophy encapsulates BYD's strategic offering of advanced autonomous features without the associated exorbitant costs.
With this commitment to accessibility, consumers can access God’s Eye C technology for as low as $9,300 through the BYD Seagull model. Such pricing strategies have the potential to disrupt the automotive market, shifting the competitive dynamics throughout the self-driving technology sector.
BYD's mission to deliver self-driving features is expected to significantly alter the market, increasing consumer adoption rates of autonomous vehicles. With this aggressive pricing and widespread feature integration, expectations are high for future growth, encouraging other manufacturers to rethink their pricing and technology strategies.
Through innovations like God’s Eye, BYD is poised at the forefront of transforming the automotive industry, not only pushing boundaries with technology but ensuring such innovations are accessible to the general public. This direction positions BYD as a formidable leader, spearheading the evolution of self-driving vehicles toward safer and more efficient roads.
