BYD Introduces Electric 7-Seater SUV Tang In Italy

The new BYD Tang combines luxury features with cutting-edge technology and a 530 km range.

BYD has officially launched its new electric SUV, the Tang, in Italy, setting a base price of €72,950. This seven-seater SUV showcases impressive specs, such as two electric motors delivering a total of 517 horsepower and a range of up to 530 kilometers. First revealed in Europe at the 2022 Paris Motor Show, the Tang now brings its sleek design and advanced technology to the Italian market.

The BYD Tang measures an expansive 4.97 meters in length, 1.95 meters in width, and 1.74 meters in height, complemented by a generous wheelbase of 2.82 meters. This spacious configuration allows it to comfortably accommodate seven passengers in a 2-3-2 seating arrangement. With a distinctive front design characterized by the "Dragon Face" styling, full LED headlights, and a brushed aluminum grille showcasing the BYD logo, the Tang’s aesthetics have been enhanced since its restyling last year at the Geneva Motor Show.

Inside, the Tang offers luxury features, including Nappa leather seats in the first row, which are electrically adjustable and equipped with heating, ventilation, and massage functions. The interior also provides customizable ambient lighting and an opening panoramic sunroof. Cargo capacity ranges from a minimum of 235 liters with all seats up to a maximum of 1,655 liters when the third row is folded down.

For technology enthusiasts, the dashboard is impressively equipped with a 12.3-inch digital screen and a 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen. These advanced interfaces are powered by a Qualcomm processor that supports an intelligent voice assistant, alongside integrated Android Auto and Apple CarPlay services. Notably, all these features come standard without optional accessories, making it an all-inclusive offering.

With regards to convenience, the Tang includes a 50-watt wireless charger for smartphones and a premium Dynaudio audio system. The vehicle's suspension is adaptive, providing a smooth ride, while the 21-inch alloy wheels come equipped with Michelin tires. Safety and performance features include a Brembo braking system aided by Bosch hydraulic assistance and four different driving modes: Sport, Normal, Eco, and Snow.

Performance-wise, the BYD Tang is powered by two robust electric motors that produce a combined output of 517 horsepower (380 kW) and 700 Nm of torque. This enables the SUV to reach a maximum speed of 190 km/h and sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in as little as 4.9 seconds. While the officially approved power should be around 130 kW, this specification disqualifies the vehicle for novice drivers under Italian regulations.

The Tang’s Blade Battery, with a capacity of 108.8 kWh, guarantees an official WLTP range of 530 kilometers at a consumption of 24 kWh per 100 kilometers. For charging, the battery can handle a maximum of 170 kW in direct current, and 11 kW in alternating current, allowing it to recharge from 10% to 80% in approximately 46 minutes.

In summary, the arrival of the BYD Tang in Italy marks a significant step for electric vehicle options in the market. With its blend of performance, luxury features, and innovative technologies, the BYD Tang is set to appeal to families seeking a spacious and modern electric SUV that meets contemporary mobility needs.
