Burghausen's Annual Kinderfasching Canceled This Year

Despite the sad news, the community prepares for engaging events including the upcoming bicycle auction.

Burghausen's local traditions take center stage each year, particularly with events like the cherished Kinderfasching organized by the Kolpingsfamilie Burghausen. Sadly, this year, the event has been canceled, causing disappointment among the town's families.

The Kinderfasching event, which has delighted children aged 5 to 12 for more than twenty years, was scheduled for Rosenmontag, March 3, 2025, at the Pfarrzentrum St. Konrad. "Leider müssen wir in diesem Jahr den Kinderfasching aufgrund von fehlenden Ressourcen kurzfristig absagen," says Dr. Claus-Rüdiger Heikenwälder, the chairman of the Kolpingsfamilie Burghausen. He has been at the helm guiding the celebrations since their inception.

Despite the cancellation, the Kolpingsfamilie has ensured some level of festivity will remain intact. The organization will distribute the popcorn they had already purchased to children attending on the original event date. This small gesture aims to keep the spirit of Kinderfasching alive for the town's young residents.

While the cancellation is disappointing, it's worth noting the city's upcoming activities, such as the first public auction of lost bicycles, scheduled for Thursday, February 27, 2025, at 5:00 PM at Messehalle, Berchtesgadener Str. 4. Florian Schneider, Erster Bürgermeister of Burghausen, announced, "Einladung zur öffentlichen Versteigerung von Fundfahrrädern am Donnerstag, 27.02.2025 um 17:00 Uhr." This auction aims to involve the community and clear out unclaimed items.

The auction will require only cash payments, inviting community members to take part and potentially find valuable items. Residents are encouraged to register their claims on any lost items at the city’s lost-and-found office before the auction day.

Though this year’s Kinderfasching won't take place as planned, Dr. Heikenwälder remains optimistic about the future, stating, "Aber im nächsten Jahr findet er bestimmt wieder statt." This sentiment resonates with many families who cherish the festive cultural traditions of Burghausen.

Community engagement is key, not only for longstanding events like Kinderfasching but also for newer initiatives like the bicycle auction. Together, the people of Burghausen look forward to coming together next year for the return of their beloved children's festival and to participate actively in future city events.
