In an absolutely improbable comeback, the Milwaukee Bucks came from behind and toppled the Minnesota Timberwolves, 110-103. Giannis Antetokounmpo’s 23 points led the scoring for Milwaukee. He also earned a triple-double with 13 rebounds and ten assists. Kevin Porter Jr.’s 21 points off the bench was a massive spark, along with his momentous defense. Anthony Edwards’ 25 points served as the game-high.
It took a bit for the Bucks’ offense to get the wheels going to kick this one off. Giannis Antetokounmpo didn’t do too much, scoring just a pair of points in the quarter. Running off some very hot shooting, the Timberwolves snapped open a double-digit advantage late in the period. However, sparked by the return of Bobby Portis and his four first quarter points, Milwaukee was able to slice the deficit to 28-23 going into the second.
That deficit would grow back to double digits at halftime, as the Wolves carried a 56-45 lead into the locker room. They were paced by 11 points from Jaden McDaniels and ten more from Anthony Edwards. However, Naz Reid’s 12 off the bench was a team-high for them. No Buck hit double figures at the break, with Kevin Porter Jr.’s nine points serving as the team high. Looking at their threes, it was easy to tell why that was the case. The team went just 4/21 from the perimeter in the half.
A flurry of threes from Minnesota, particularly Donte DiVincenzo, extended their lead even further in the late portions of the third. Through three quarters, the Big Ragu erupted for four threes, totaling 16 points off the bench. Mixed alongside 24 points from Anthony Edwards, the Wolves sat with a comfortable 90-70 advantage going into the fourth.
Then, the script flipped. Sparked by a Gary Trent Jr. four-point play, the Bucks embarked on a 23-0 run to cut Minnesota’s deficit to just a single point with just a tad under five minutes to play. Moments later, an AJ Green three knotted things up at 97 apiece. Following a clash involving KPJ, Rudy Gobert, and Trent Jr., KPJ gave the Bucks a lead with a pair of fastbreak dunks. All in all during that period, Milwaukee built up a 30-3 run.
KPJ then facilitated a picture perfect alley-oop to Giannis, giving Milwaukee their biggest lead of the game to date at 105-98 with 1:47 remaining. From that point, the energy was too much for the Wolves to handle and the Bucks stamped out a 110-103 victory.
Stat That Stood Out: Tonight marked Bobby Portis’ return to the court after a 25 game suspension. Boy, was his presence felt and appreciated by the Bucks in a big way. All in all, he registered 29 minutes, including a bulk down the stretch in clutch time. He padded the stat sheet with a big man performance that the Bucks were in dire need of, earning a double-double with 18 points and ten rebounds. There’s no doubt that he brought a sense of energy to not just the game, but the arena. Numerous Bobby chants filled Fiserv Forum throughout the night, helping Milwaukee secure the improbable victory.
With the fight for playoff positioning reaching a fever pitch, the Timberwolves couldn't handle the sweat Tuesday night as they choked on a 24-point, fourth quarter lead and inexplicably lost to the Milwaukee Bucks. Minnesota led 95-71 with 10:07 to play and lost 110-103 as the Bucks overwhelmed the Wolves 40-13 in the fourth quarter, finishing the game on a 39-8 run to send the Timberwolves home in shock.
The Wolves led by 11 at the half and ballooned the lead to 24 points in the fourth when the Bucks turned into a freight train, scoring 23 consecutive points in a five-minute span to cut the deficit to one, 95-94. Anthony Edwards and his lifeless teammates went 5 minutes, 13 seconds without a point as the Bucks roared back, turning a surefire loss into an unbelievable victory against a Wolves team that can't afford to lose in a jam-packed Western Conference playoff race.
In the Timberwolves locker room, after their worst fourth-quarter collapse of the season, there were no raised voices. No heads down. There was plenty of chatter and even some laughter. Not what most might expect after the team gave away a 24-point lead in the fourth. “We good,” guard Anthony Edwards said. “I mean, it’s a part of the game. Of course we didn’t want to lose. But we can’t be in bad spirits because we know we need to win next game.”
Coach Chris Finch, who can be blunt in postgame news conferences when his team doesn’t play well, did his best to shrug off what was in the running for the team’s most inexplicable loss at the worst moment of the season. “It’s a bad fourth quarter against a zone defense,” Finch said. “I don’t think it’s a microcosm of the season.”
It wasn’t just a bad fourth quarter against that zone defense; it looked like the Wolves had never seen one. The numbers will put fans in a bad mood again: nine fourth-quarter turnovers, 4-for-20 from the field, and the Wolves went 8 minutes, 34 seconds without a field goal after going ahead 95-71 with 10:09 to play. Milwaukee scored 23 consecutive points over the next 5:13.
As frustrating as it is, we can’t let it linger into the next game,” said Julius Randle, who had nine points, six assists but five turnovers. “We don’t have time for that now. I believe in this team. I believe we will do it. We just gotta do it.”
The Bucks have found new life in April. Just when it looked like their season was dying on the vine, the Bucks have blossomed with five straight victories after a dramatic 110-103 comeback win over the Minnesota Timberwolves. It was an emotional victory for the Bucks, with the return of Bobby Portis Jr. to the lineup after a 25-game suspension and then the team erasing a 24-point deficit in the fourth quarter.
Giannis Antetokounmpo has played a big role in the comeback. He finished with 23 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists for a third straight triple-double. “He’s empowering his teammates, and it’s beautiful to see,” said Bucks coach Doc Rivers.
The Bucks are jockeying with the Detroit Pistons for the No. 5 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs. They could clinch that spot by winning against New Orleans on Thursday, April 10, 2025, and if Detroit loses to the New York Knicks that same night. The Bucks have three more games this week to end the regular season, including road-and-home games against Detroit.
