The Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP) has officially launched its 2025 Admission Process, which will be conducted entirely online, marking a significant shift in how prospective students can apply. Announced on April 4, 2025, this new approach allows over 80,000 applicants to complete every stage from registration to the admission exam remotely, a move aimed at making the process more accessible and efficient.
Dr. Lilia Cedillo Ramírez, the rector of BUAP, emphasized the importance of this transition during a press conference, stating, "Today we are pleased to announce the 2025 admission call, which will allow those who enter our institution not only to transform their lives but also those of their families." The admission exam will cost 750 pesos, and classes are set to commence on August 27, 2025, which is a month later than usual due to previous delays caused by a student strike.
One of the key features of the 2025 admission process is the introduction of three different modalities for entry, including a new Institutional Transition model specifically designed for graduates of BUAP's upper secondary schools. This model incorporates a propaedeutic course (P1-BUAP), although all applicants must still pass the admission exam to secure their place.
Important dates for the various educational levels have been outlined as follows:
- For Upper Secondary Level (graduates of BUAP):
Registration for programs with additional requirements: April 7 - April 13, 2025

In total, BUAP will offer 40,009 places for the 2025 academic year, reflecting a 6.1% increase from the previous year, when there were 37,695 available spots. The distribution of these places includes 13,205 for Upper Secondary Level, 21,370 for Higher Level in Autumn 2025, and 5,434 for Spring 2026.
During the announcement, Dr. Cedillo also acknowledged the recent student strike that delayed the publication of the admission call, which had created uncertainty among applicants and their families. However, she assured that the new virtual process aims to guarantee broader and more equitable access to higher education.
Furthermore, this year’s admission process introduces several new academic programs. Notably, the degree in Journalism, previously only offered remotely, will now be available on campus. Additionally, new engineering programs such as Digital Logistics and Supply Chain, and Semiconductor Technologies will be introduced, with the latter being available at the San José Chiapa Regional Complex.
BUAP clarified that these new programs will only commence if a minimum of 15 applicants enroll in the admission process. Other new offerings include Public Accounting and Law at the Ciudad Serdán Regional Complex, as well as International Business and Marketing and Digital Media at the Tehuacán Regional Complex. Law will also be available at the Atlixco Regional Complex, while the Teziutlán Regional Complex will offer a degree in Chemical Pharmacobiology. Lastly, the Faculty of Agricultural and Livestock Sciences at the Libres campus will provide Agronomic and Zootechnical Engineering programs.
With a commitment to increasing enrollment, Dr. Cedillo highlighted that the total increase in enrollment from 2021 to 2025 has reached 18,348 places, with an additional 4,567 places available for this admission cycle alone. The BUAP's goal is to provide more opportunities for young people to pursue higher education, ensuring that quality education remains accessible.
