Bridge Collapse At Seoul-Sejong Expressway Injures Multiple Workers

Three confirmed dead and five injured at construction site amid rescue efforts.

A tragic incident occurred at a construction site for the Seoul-Sejong expressway on February 25, 2025, where a bridge collapsed, resulting in multiple injuries and fatalities. Reports from authorities indicate the collapse took place at approximately 9:49 AM in the Ipjang-myeon area of Cheonan, Chungcheongnam-do, South Korea.

According to the Fire Disaster Headquarters, the bridge's collapse was reported shortly after it occurred, leading to immediate response measures. It was initially estimated by the fire service responders, who quickly mobilized to the site, the Modern Engineering, Hoban Industry, and Bumyang Construction led the project—as well as subcontractor Jangheon Industry.

So far, three workers have been confirmed dead, and five others have sustained injuries. The authorities are still assessing the full extent of the casualties as efforts are concentrated on rescuing those potentially trapped under the debris. "The incident occurred on February 25 at approximately 9:50 AM, and as of now, three workers have been confirmed dead and five others injured," stated Hyun Jin-jae, as reported by Joongbu Daily.

The Fire Disaster Headquarters reiterated their immediate response efforts: "We have deployed 18 pieces of equipment and 53 personnel to carry out rescue operations following the initial collapse report." This deployment highlights the urgency and gravity of the situation as rescue teams work tirelessly to locate any other victims among the debris.

Rescue operations are still underway, and local officials are investigating the collapse. Authorities suspect the bridge fell during construction activities, but no conclusive information about the cause has been released yet. This serves as a somber reminder of the risks faced by construction workers and the importance of stringent safety measures on-site.

With the situation developing, both government agencies and the involved construction firms are called to examine safety protocols thoroughly to prevent similar tragedies from occurring. The spotlight on the construction industry grows ever more pressing as this incident highlights the potential dangers workers face daily.

Our thoughts are with the families of those affected by this tragic accident, and we hope for speedy recovery for the injured individuals. This heartbreaking episode not only speaks volumes about safety standards but also the collective responsibility toward the safety and well-being of workers across such high-risk environments.
