Brazil's beloved Semana do Cinema, or Cinema Week, is back for 2025, enticing moviegoers with remarkable discounts on tickets. From February 6 to February 12, attendees at various cinemas across Brazil can purchase tickets for only R$ 10. This initiative, now entering its sixth year, has proven successful by creating affordable access to films over the course of one week.
Organization of the event is led by the Federation of Cinematographic Exhibition Companies (FENEEC), with the backing of the Brazilian Association of Cinematographic Exhibition Companies (ABRAPLEX) and support from ticketing partner, Ingesso.com. The promotional pricing applies to all standard screening sessions at participating cinemas, which include traditional movie formats and certain locations' Macro XE cinemas. Notably, this year’s promotion excludes 3D films, premieres, pre-sales, and special screenings.
“A Semana do Cinema, que se tornou um sucesso ao criar um preço único promocional ao longo de sete dias,” said FENEEC, emphasizing the success and longevity of the campaign.
Cinemas participating in this year's promotion include popular chains located throughout Brazil’s main attractions, with notable listings from João Pessoa, Maceió, and Campina Grande. Specifically, movie theaters such as Centerplex at Mag Shopping, and Cinépolis at Manaíra and Mangabeira Shopping will contribute to the lineup.
While enjoying discounted admission, cinema-goers can also indulge in special combos with popcorn and soda, adding to the affordability and cinema experience. “Os cinemas participantes também oferecem combos promocionais de pipoca e refrigerante durante o período da campanha,” mentioned FENEEC.
The program this year promises to feature diversified screenings, with “A programação será variada, com longas nacionais e internacionais que prometem agradar todos os tipos de público.” This is especially timely as film enthusiasts will have the chance to see renowned films nominated for the 2025 Oscars, including ‘Ainda Estou Aqui’, ‘Conclave’, and ‘Emilia Pérez’.
With the return of this initiative, organizers aim to encourage the public to flock back to cinemas, which struggled amid pandemic-related restrictions. During last year's campaign, the increase in ticket revenues evidenced the public's thirst for cinema after lockdowns had eased. ”This promotion will also serve to celebrate cinema itself—the art form and cultural community it fosters,” said ABRAPLEX.
Across the participating theaters, movie lovers will encounter new releases, ranging from drama to action. Audiences can look forward to ‘Blindado’, starring Sylvester Stallone as well as animated films celebrating popular franchises. Not to be missed this year is the acclaimed ‘Emilia Pérez’, which has received numerous accolades and stirred up discussions surrounding its cultural portrayal.
The richly diverse offerings at this year's Semana do Cinema are set to cater to viewers of all preferences. Families, serious cinephiles, and casual moviegoers are all expected to benefit from the festival atmosphere being created.
For more details on regulations and showtimes, film buffs can check the dedicated page on the Centerplex website for simple access to schedules and promotions across various theaters.
Conclusively, this year's Cinema Week aims not only to revitalize cinema attendance post-pandemic but also to celebrate the central role films play within Brazilian culture. By providing unprecedented access at such low prices, organizers hope to create memorable experiences for moviegoers everywhere.
