Brazilian workers can now check their eligibility for the PIS/Pasep 2025 abono salarial, which provides financial support based on their employment status and income level. Consultations opened on February 5, 2025, allowing individuals to verify if they qualify for this year’s benefit before payments commence on February 17.
According to the Ministry of Labor, the PIS/Pasep program is aimed at offering assistance to those who have worked for at least 30 days during the reference year of 2023. This initiative is particularly significant as it provides up to one minimum salary, amounting to R$ 1,518, depending on the salary earned during the relevant period.
“The payment will start on February 17 for those born in January and end on August 15 for those born in November and December,” reported the Ministry of Labor. Alongside these payment dates, the government has allocated R$ 30.7 billion to fund this year’s payments, benefiting approximately 25.8 million workers.
To be eligible, workers must have been employed formally and registered under the PIS/Pasep program for at least five years. They also should not exceed the income cap of R$ 2,640, which indicates they earn up to two minimum wages.
“Workers need to be registered for at least five years and have worked for at least 30 days during 2023 to be eligible for the abono,” according to the Ministry of Labor. Those who do not qualify typically include domestic workers or those employed by individuals rather than companies.
For checking eligibility, workers can use various methods. One of the hands-on approaches is through the digital Carteira de Trabalho app, available for both Android and iOS. To use the app, workers need to download it and log in using their Gov.br account, then navigate to the benefits section to see their entitlement status.
Alternatively, individuals can consult the Gov.br portal or contact the Alô Trabalho helpline at 158, which operates from Monday to Saturday. This is complemented by additional resources, such as the Caixa Trabalhador app, which allows users to assess their benefit status and the calendar of payments.
The payment is split based on the birth dates of the applicants. For example, those born in January will begin receiving their benefits starting February 17, and this roll-out will conclude with beneficiaries born in November and December on August 15. Payments will continue until December 29, 2025, providing ample opportunity for workers to receive their due amounts.
The payments for this program are disbursed through the Caixa Econômica Federal for PIS recipients from the private sector and through the Banco do Brasil for Pasep beneficiaries among public servants. Payments can be credited automatically to bank accounts or can also be withdrawn through banks and ATMs.
This year’s abono is especially important as it reflects the governmental support extended during these economically challenging times, ensuring assistance to those who need it the most. Nevertheless, significant changes loomed on the horizon, as there are plans to gradually reduce the income ceiling for qualifying for PIS/Pasep starting 2026.
Previous reforms mean the threshold will incrementally lower until it adjusts to just 1.5 times the minimum wage, giving governments the chance to manage public spending efficiently as they strive for fiscal sustainability.
Overall, the initiation of the PIS/Pasep 2025 program marks another pivotal step in supporting Brazilian workers, fostering economic stability through established benefit structures. Accurate consultations and clarity about the application process are key to ensuring eligible workers access the benefits they deserve without delay.
