The Brazilian government is preparing to roll out the much-anticipated payment of the PIS/Pasep salary bonus for 2025, beginning on February 17. Eligible recipients can look forward to these important disbursements, as the program aims to provide financial support to millions across the country.
According to officials from the Ministry of Labor, approximately 25.8 million workers will benefit from the abono salarial, which totals R$ 30.7 billion. This payment is significant for many low-income workers who have participated formally in the job market.
The payment schedule was officially set during the December meeting of the Codefat (Council Deliberative of the Workers' Support Fund) and will follow the birth month of beneficiaries. Starting from February 17, those born in January will receive their funds. Payments will continue monthly, concluding with those born in November and December, who will be able to access their payments starting August 15, 2025.
To qualify for the PIS/Pasep salary bonus, workers must have been formally employed for at least 30 days within 2023 and earned no more than two minimum wages, which amounts to R$ 2,640. Importantly, individuals must also be registered with the PIS/Pasep program for at least five years to be eligible.
The abono salarial value is proportional to the duration of employment and will be calculated based on the minimum wage at the time of payment. For 2025, the amount for the abono salarial is set to be R$ 1,518.
From February 5, 2025, workers can verify their eligibility for the abono by accessing their information through the Digital Work Card app, the Gov.br portal, or the Alô Trabalho service at telephone number 158. The process is straightforward and user-friendly, ensuring wider access to these benefits.
Payments will typically be prioritized for workers who have accounts at Caixa Econômica Federal or Banco do Brasil, with direct deposits being the preferred method. Workers without bank accounts can still receive their benefits through the Digital Social Savings Account, which is automatically created by Caixa. Withdrawals can also be made via lottery terminals and Caixa's self-service kiosks.
For those interested, the entire payment schedule for 2025 is as follows:
- Nascidos em janeiro: 17 de fevereiro
- Nascidos em fevereiro: 17 de março
- Nascidos em março e abril: 15 de abril
- Nascidos em maio e junho: 15 de maio
- Nascidos em julho e agosto: 16 de junho
- Nascidos em setembro e outubro: 15 de julho
- Nascidos em novembro e dezembro: 15 de agosto
It’s worth noting the lessons from previous cycles, as many who qualified in 2024 still had undisbursed funds. This emphasizes the importance of staying informed as some workers have until December 27, 2025, to claim any outstanding amounts from previous years.
To help clarify the process, the Ministry of Labor has encouraged all potential beneficiaries to check their eligibility proactively and to stay updated through the various digital platforms available. The measures taken by the Brazilian government aim to streamline the payment process and inform recipients effectively.
Notably, the recent efforts reflect the government's commitment to providing necessary financial aid to the working class amid economic challenges, positioning the PIS/Pasep program as a linchpin for many households across Brazil.
