Brazil Celebrates Tiradentes Holiday With Special Hours

Local businesses adjust operations for the national holiday honoring Joaquim José da Silva Xavier.

On Monday, April 21, 2025, Brazil observes the Tiradentes holiday, a day dedicated to honoring Joaquim José da Silva Xavier, a prominent figure in the Inconfidência Mineira, a movement aimed at ending colonial rule in Brazil. This year, the holiday follows closely on the heels of Semana Santa and Easter, allowing many workers to enjoy an extended break.

In Serra Talhada, the local economy feels the impact of the holiday, particularly in the commerce and service sectors. The column "Abre e Fecha" provides a detailed list of what will be open and closed during this festive day.

Public institutions will have varied operating hours. The Public Market on Rua Enock Inácio de Oliveira will be closed on Monday and will reopen on Tuesday, April 22. Meanwhile, the Feira Livre in Lagoa Maria Timóteo will remain open until noon on the holiday and will also resume normal operations the following day.

As for the food court at Lagoa Maria Timóteo, it will be closed for the holiday, with plans to reopen on Tuesday. Additionally, the general commerce in Serra Talhada will observe the holiday and will be closed on Monday.

However, not all businesses will shut down. Supermercado Pajeú plans to keep all its stores open on Monday, as will Atacadão, located on BR-232, which will operate from 7 AM to 10 PM. Pharmacies will have different schedules: Farmácia do Povo will function on a reduced schedule until 1 PM, while Farmácia Santa Clara will be open from 6:30 AM to 10 PM, and Farmácia Drogasil will operate from 7 AM to 11 PM.

At Shopping Serra Talhada, the food court will be open from 12 PM to 10 PM, with retail stores operating from 1 PM to 9 PM. The Selfit gym will welcome patrons from 8 AM to 6 PM, but the Lotérica will remain closed on Monday.

Meanwhile, in Boa Vista, the Pátio Roraima Shopping will also operate on a special schedule during this holiday season. On Friday, April 18 (Sexta-feira Santa), and Saturday, April 19 (Sábado de Aleluia), the shopping center will operate normally, with stores, kiosks, and the food court open from 10 AM to 10 PM.

On Easter Sunday (April 20) and Tiradentes Day (April 21), the food court will open later, from 11:30 AM to 10 PM, while stores and kiosks will open from 2 PM to 10 PM. The Atacadão will maintain its hours from 7 AM to 10 PM on Monday, while the Smart FIT gym will operate from 8 AM to 6 PM on both Friday and Monday, and from 8 AM to 2 PM on Sunday.

The Lotérica will be open to the public during specific hours: from 1 PM to 6 PM on Friday, Sunday, and Monday, and from 10 AM to 8 PM on Saturday. Notably, the Detran will be closed during this holiday period, and those wishing to catch a movie at Cine Araújo are advised to check the schedule on the shopping's website.

As the holiday approaches, residents and visitors are encouraged to plan accordingly, whether they are looking to partake in the festivities or simply enjoy a day off. With a blend of closures and special hours, the Tiradentes holiday promises to be a significant event for many in Brazil.
