The city of Bourges has seen various activities and events as December 2024 approaches its end, showcasing community spirit, regional sports achievements, and changing weather conditions.
On December 22, the regional cycling championships at the Albert Bourlon velodrome attracted only slightly more than twenty competitors from the Centre-Val de Loire region. Following the Grand Prix of Issoudun on December 21, the velodrome came alive once again but unfortunately was less attended. The winter endurance championships were organized by the Cher departmental committee and featured several events, including scratch, Danish, and points races.
Notably absent were female competitors from the region, leading to Constance Marchand from the Sprinter Club Évolution clinching the win without any regional challengers. Among the few female participants, Aziliz Sigalas from AC Bas Berry—a U15 U17 competitor—bravely competed against the male U15 racers, finishing third overall, with the top spots being dominated by the Imbourg brothers from CS Chinonais. Meanwhile, Arthur Meunier from AC Bas Berry earned the silver medal in the elite open category, which was won by Dorian Perleaux of UC Cholet, followed by professional cyclist Jason Tesson from Total Énergie.
Successful performances were also noted by Romuald Hervé of UC Châteauroux, who finished first overall among U19 competitors thanks to his impressive victory in the points race, beating out notable athletes such as Lancelot Gayant and Brewen Sigalas. Other winners included Soran Roubaie from CS Chinonais, who took the U13 title, and Evan Formeau from AC Bas Berry who triumphed among U17 racers.
Switching gears, the city also announced changes to waste collection schedules due to the upcoming holidays. Essential service interruptions on December 25 and January 1 mean affected neighborhoods will have their waste collection pushed back by one day. Residents are urged to take note of this shift to avoid any inconvenience.
On December 23, Bourges participated in collective mourning for the victims of Cyclone Chido, which devastated parts of the affected areas. A moment of silence was observed with nearly 80 individuals gathering outside the city hall to pay their respects on this national day of mourning.
Weather-wise, the forecast for Bourges on December 23 predicts overcast skies with cooler temperatures. The morning will start with temperatures around 4 °C, with wind speeds initially around 35 km/h expected to increase sharply by mid-morning to approximately 45 km/h. Gusts could reach over 70 km/h during this period as the day progresses. The weather later will stabilize at 6 °C with sustained winds and cloud cover dominating the sky.
Residents can expect conditions to remain similar for the following day without any extreme weather changes forecasted. The usual temperatures for this time of year will hover between 3 and 5 °C, maintaining the chill typical of late December.
