On March 9, 2025, the highly anticipated show 'Bogatyr Games' made its debut on STS, featuring 100 participants competing for the esteemed title of 'Bogatyr of All Russia'. The show promises not only to test its contestants' physical prowess but also to immerse them in the rich cultural heritage of Russian fairy tales.
Among the participants is Vasily Artemyev, well-known as both a rugby player and television host. His decision to join 'Bogatyr Games' was met with surprise, as he was approached by the show's producers. "The offer to become a participant was unexpected for me. They contacted me, outlined the project, and I became interested," Vasily shared with СЭ. Having previously settled comfortably as the host of another show, 'Super Ninja', he found this role as participant refreshing and challenging.
Preparation for the show proved to be quite strenuous. Notably, the two weeks leading up to the show comprised intense filming for 'Super Ninja. Children', leaving Artemyev with merely one week to prepare physically for the 'Bogatyr Games'. "I managed to make it to the gym three or four times and get back to running. It's always tough when you're short on time, but my sports career has prepared me well for challenges like these," he explained. Despite his standard routine of training two to three times per week, he was aware of the demanding nature of the upcoming competition.
Upon arriving at the filming location, Vasily was struck by the scale of the set. "The impressive size of the pavilion and the stunning decorations really took me aback. The stylistic elements and the sheer grandeur created a unique atmosphere," he remarked.
One memorable experience for all competitors was the first test, which involved standing on one enormous platform alongside the other 99 contestants. Vasily vividly described the moment, stating, "When all 100 of us entered the arena, I realized I could potentially be eliminated immediately and never have the chance to continue. This thought was both nerve-wracking and motivating. It pushed me to present my best self on the show." His dedication to staying focused through his anxiety, honed through years of competitive sports, helped him channel his emotions effectively.
Vasily acknowledged the diverse backgrounds of the contestants, which included both athletes and figures from the entertainment industry: "There were people I already knew from before, and it was great to be surrounded by familiar faces. The motivation from fellow sports enthusiasts ignited passion and positivity among us.”
Regarding his expectations, he spoke candidly about the pressure felt prior to performances. He said, "It's not easy being both participant and host. Each role carries its own responsibilities. When you compete, you're primarily responsible for yourself, your expectations, and those of your friends and family. But as the host, you're accountable for the overall presentation and how well the project turns out because so many people are involved.”
Vasily highlighted how both roles share the complexity of responsibility: "While the nature of what you do differs, the intensity and challenges are quite similar. I feel grateful for the opportunity to explore this new side of myself through participation. It’s been enriching.”
With significant emotional and physical trials lying at the heart of 'Bogatyr Games', viewers will be captivated not only by the fierce competitions but also by the personal journeys of the contestants like Vasily Artemyev. Through endurance and determination, they embody the timeless spirit of the heroes found within Russia's cherished fairy tales, paralleling their struggles with those of folklore's rich traditions.
While the show aims to entertain, it lets audiences navigate the intersection of modern competition and cultural heritage, inspiring viewers to reflect on their strength and resilience. 'Bogatyr Games' is poised to be more than just another reality show; it serves as a vehicle for remembering the stories and values of the past, showcasing athletes who challenge themselves to the fullest.
