Body Of Drowned Student Found In Hue Beach

Authorities discover the remains of a 13-year-old boy who drowned while swimming with friends.

On April 17, 2025, the body of a 7th-grade student, P.N.M., who tragically drowned while swimming, was discovered in the sea near Thuy Tan commune, Huong Thuy town, Hue City. The young boy, a student at Thuy Tan Elementary and Junior High School, was found approximately 500 meters from where he went missing.

The incident occurred on April 15, when P.N.M. and a group of about five friends decided to visit Vinh Thanh beach in Phu Vang district for a swim. Unfortunately, while enjoying the water, P.N.M. was swept away by large waves that day. Concerned when they could not locate him, his friends alerted his family around 4:30 PM.

Local authorities and rescue teams sprang into action immediately after receiving the report. They coordinated efforts with local fishermen and volunteers, utilizing boats and even drone technology to search the coastline for over 24 hours without success.

After two days of relentless searching, the authorities finally located P.N.M.'s body in the coastal area that borders Vinh Xuan and Vinh Thanh communes. This tragic discovery was made around midday on April 17, and the body was subsequently retrieved and handed over to his family for burial.

The local government expressed condolences to the family, emphasizing the community's deep sorrow over the loss of such a young life. The incident has raised awareness about the dangers of swimming in rough seas, especially among young children.

In light of this tragedy, officials are now urging parents to be more vigilant about water safety, particularly during periods of strong waves and adverse weather conditions. They highlighted the importance of ensuring that children swim in designated safe areas and under adult supervision.

This heartbreaking event serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of the sea and the need for caution. As the community mourns the loss of P.N.M., many are reflecting on the importance of safety measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
