Body Found In Search For Missing Sisters

Discovery raises fears for the welfare of Henrietta and Eliza Huszti.

A body has been recovered from the River Dee near Aberdeen, intensifying the investigation surrounding the disappearance of sisters Henrietta and Eliza Huszti. The two sisters, both 32 years old, went missing earlier this month, last seen around 2 AM on January 7, 2025, near the well-known Queen Elizabeth Bridge.

Authorities, including Police Scotland, alerted the public on Friday morning, January 31, stating, "We were made aware of the body of a person seen in the River Dee near Queen Elizabeth Bridge around 7.55 AM on Friday. The body has been recovered from the water and enquiries are underway." While identification of the body is still pending, this discovery near where the sisters were last seen adds another layer of urgency and concern to their case.

The Huszti sisters, originally from Hungary, had moved to Scotland ten years ago. They are part of a set of triplets, and their family has been understandably distraught since their disappearance was first reported. Just before they vanished, the sisters communicated with their landlady via text, announcing their intent to cancel their tenancy at 2:12 AM on the day they went missing. It was at this precise moment—the exact time they disappeared—that worries for their safety became serious.

Superintendent David Howieson, overseeing the investigation, indicated earlier, “There was an indication from the person from whom they rent a flat who had concerns they left the flat and indicated they intended to move.” Compounding the situation is the fact the sisters reportedly did not inform their family about this sudden decision. Their brother, Jozsef Huszti, expressed bewilderment, stating, "They wrote a message to their landlady... We didn’t have any information about it. So, that's the strange thing, the girls didn’t tell us anything about it." This disconnect has left family members grappling with unanswered questions, adding to their torment during this tragic period.

Upon police investigation, it was revealed the sisters had been seen on CCTV footage near the River Dee prior to their disappearance. A missing persons inquiry was initiated, which quickly expanded to include extensive searches of the river and nearby harbor areas over the following weeks. Sadly, all efforts yielded no clues, prompting the authorities to end their deep search operations. Yet, the case remains open, with law enforcement continuing to investigate various possibilities surrounding the sisters' last known actions.

Local media has been closely following the investigation, often featuring theories and speculation about the sisters’ fate. Many narratives have emerged, with some sensational claims spotlighted, harkening back to the family’s connection to Hungary and the nationwide concern for the missing women. Investigative efforts have remained focused, though police have refrained from categorizing the case as suspicious. “There’s nothing we’ve found to suggest criminality or suspicious circumstances. They may have come to harm,” said Howieson, continuing to stress the importance of thorough inquiries.

Both sisters were known to be saving money to purchase their home, raising questions about their state of mind before they vanished. Authorities have pieced together movements leading to their disappearance, detailing their visit to Victoria Bridge the day before they went missing. This visit coincided with signs of distress or possible motivations for entering the river. While no direct indications of foul play have surfaced, the nature of their disappearance remains troubling.

The community, equally invested, has remained hopeful for any developments. Public calls for information have been widely circulated, as both family and law enforcement seek answers. The emotional toll is visible, as family members and friends cling to the hope of closure and the potential for reunion.

Though the body’s recovery has introduced new fears about the potential outcomes following the sisters’ disappearances, the full story is still shrouded in uncertainty. With inquiries continuing and detectives examining every detail, residents of Aberdeen and beyond follow closely, awaiting clarity on the fate of Henrietta and Eliza Huszti.
