The SCALPSS instrument, developed at NASA’s Langley Research Center, is purpose-built to document the lander's descent and touchdown on the lunar surface.

Blue Ghost's four short-focal-length cameras focus on interactions between the rocket's plumes, foot pads, and the Moon’s surface, ensuring adequate documentation for future exploration endeavors. "Blue Ghost is equipped to capture rare phenomena like the lunar horizon glow, which has only been seen by Apollo astronauts," remarked Jason Kim, CEO of Firefly Aerospace.
