Blackburn Rovers have officially secured the signing of 25-year-old striker Augustus Kargbo from the Italian club Cesena for an undisclosed fee. The Sierra Leone international has committed to a two-and-a-half-year contract with the club, extending his stay until June 2027.
Kargbo is known for his explosive playing style and strong performance record, which includes helping Cesena achieve promotion to Serie B last season. He has previously played for clubs such as Campobasso and Crotone, demonstrating impressive scoring abilities throughout his career.
“Rovers are delighted to secure the signature of Sierra Leone international Augustus Kargbo on a permanent deal,” stated Blackburn Rovers FC on their official website. The announcement marks the third signing for Blackburn during the January transfer window, alongside former Plymouth Argyle midfielder Adam Forshaw and defender Dion Sanderson from Birmingham City.
Beginning his career at Campobasso, Kargbo scored six goals in 20 appearances during his time there, which later led to his move to Serie B alongside Crotone. After influencing his teams with standout performances, including 11 goals during his loan to Reggiana, Kargbo gained recognition by making his Serie A debut during the 2020-21 season.
His recent stint at Cesena proved fruitful, as he played 31 games last season and scored nine goals, playing a pivotal role in winning the Serie C title. This season, Kargbo added three goals from 18 appearances for Cesena, showcasing consistent performance by netting all three goals within the first nine matches.
With 21 caps for Sierra Leone and five goals to his name for the national team, Kargbo aims to replicate his scoring prowess with the Blackburn Rovers and contribute significantly to their ambitions for the current season.
“Welcome, Augustus! The deal is subject to approval from the relevant football authorities,” the club added, making clear the contingencies around the transfer.
Fans and analysts alike will be monitoring Kargbo's integration with the Rovers squad as he brings his experience and talent to the English league, which promises to create exciting opportunities for the team. His expected impact aligns with Rovers' aspirations and plans for the future.
