Bill Belichick's girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, has stirred controversy after being spotted at a University of North Carolina practice session. The six-time Super Bowl champion made headlines with his unexpected move to college football coaching. In December, he took up a position at UNC instead of filling an NFL vacancy. It's reported that he'll be earning $10 million annually to coach the Tar Heels, with the new season getting underway in August.
Hudson, who has been dating the New England Patriots icon since 2023, was seen donning a bold outfit that contrasted sharply with Belichick's usual look over the weekend. A video of Hudson standing beside Belichick during drills at Kenan Stadium quickly spread across social media. Dressed in a long Carolina blue coat, white top, blue skirt, and white boots, Hudson perfectly embodied the Tar Heels' color scheme as she chatted with her 72-year-old partner on the sideline.
While some fans were disgruntled by Belichick bringing her to a practice session, it seems the former cheerleader-turned-influencer was assisting the UNC coach with audio equipment. According to NBC Sports, Hudson is part of a team working on a documentary about Belichick's transition into college football. Some fans were left scratching their heads when a snapshot surfaced showing Belichick's girlfriend at practice, sparking a frenzy of jokes and social media comments.
An X user quipped: "So Bill Belichick's girlfriend is a coach now... Now they might be overdoing it." Another baffled fan said: "Is Bill Belichick's girlfriend on his coaching staff at North Carolina? This is beyond weird and creepy." Amid the confusion, a third fan simply wrote: "That's just embarrassing." Others pointed out a stark contrast to Belichick's past strictness at the Patriots, adding: "So Tom Brady wasn't allowed to have his own trainer... But Bill Belichick's girlfriend can just walk on the field during practice?"
Despite the jokes, Hudson is not part of his coaching team. However, The Athletic has reported that she does get glimpses into his work life through her inclusion in some official email chains. Some commentators defended her presence at practice, with one person asking: "Can anyone explain what the problem is here? I don't see it." Echoing this sentiment, another suggested an explanation: "Seriously? What's the problem? Looks like he's having trouble with the audio equipment that he's wearing to communicate with other coaches around the field and she's helping." A particularly complimentary fan praised Hudson's ability to navigate the turf in style: "I commend her for being able to walk so beautifully in those boots/heels on the grass."
Outside of the sports world, Hudson has announced her entry into the Miss Maine USA pageant. As for Belichick, his move to UNC will allow him to coach college football for the first time, which he described as a lifelong dream in December. On the reasons he had never coached at the collegiate level before, Belichick said: "It just never really worked out. Had some good years in the NFL, so that was OK, but this is a dream come true. I grew up in college football with my dad. As a kid, all I knew was college football."
"It's great to come back home to Carolina and back into the environment that I really grew up in. When you're little, you don't remember everything. I was too young to remember a lot of things at Carolina, but as I grew up, you hear the same story over and over and over again. One story I always heard was, 'Billy's first words were, 'Beat Duke.'"
As the Tar Heels prepare for their upcoming season, all eyes will be on Belichick as he embarks on this new chapter in his storied career. His coaching debut will take place on September 1, 2025, when the Tar Heels host TCU in their home opener.
