Beth Behrs Reflects On *The Neighborhood* Finale

Actress expresses gratitude for the opportunity to say goodbye to her character.

Beth Behrs, known for her roles on CBS's sitcoms, recently reflected on her career, particularly her experiences with the shows 2 Broke Girls and The Neighborhood. Behrs expressed her gratitude for having the chance to bid farewell to her character, Gemma Johnson, on The Neighborhood, something she feels she never got to do with Caroline Channing from 2 Broke Girls.

Since its premiere back in 2011, 2 Broke Girls quickly became a fan favorite. It followed the lives of two waitresses, Behrs and her co-star Kat Dennings, who struggled to make ends meet. While the show aired for six seasons, it ended abruptly without giving the characters the proper closure fans had hoped for.

Fast forward to 2018, Behrs was cast as Gemma Johnson in the sitcom The Neighborhood, which was created by Jim Reynolds. This new chapter allowed her to engage with audiences once again. On March 14, 2025, just before the final season aired, Behrs took to social media to reflect on her career, emphasizing how significant her last years have been. "These last 7 years with my @theneighborhood family has been some of the most memorable of my life. We made it through Covid, strikes, elections… and came out stronger. Forever grateful to our entire cast and crew- here's to the best season yet!" she posted.

Her gratitude for CBS was evident, as she appreciated the opportunity to give her character the goodbye she felt her previous show failed to deliver. Behrs said, "Most of my 20s were on #2BrokeGirls, almost all of my 30s were on #TheNeighborhood and I'll usher in my 40s as we end our story. [Kat Dennings] and I never got a goodbye or an end to our #2BrokeGirls story, and I'm just so grateful to @cbstv for a chance to say goodbye to GEMMA the right way."

Kat Dennings voiced her support for Behrs, shouting, "WOOOO!!! Go Beth!!!!" on social media, showcasing the bond between the two actresses forged during their years working together. Dennings has remained busy since 2 Broke Girls, appearing in numerous voiceover roles and live-action projects, ranging from Fox’s The Simpsons to the Netflix series Dollface. She has also reprised her MCU role as Darcy Lewis, appearing most recently on Disney+’s WandaVision and the film Thor: Love and Thunder.

Meanwhile, The Neighborhood wrapped up its run with strong support from its audience and continues to shine under the guidance of its well-known cast, including Cedric the Entertainer, Max Greenfield, Sheaun McKinney, Marcel Spears, Tichina Arnold, and Hank Greenspan. The series airs Mondays on CBS, allowing fans to see their favorite characters one last time.

With 2 Broke Girls, fans lamented the missed opportunity to tie up loose ends for characters they had grown to love. Now, with Behrs’ experience on The Neighborhood, she felt fulfilled, having the chance to send Gemma off properly. This narrative of closure resonates significantly with audiences, reflecting the emotional attachment viewers develop for characters over the years.

Both shows have significantly shaped the careers of their stars, particularly Behrs and Dennings, who have embraced new adventures and challenges along the way. Behrs has made it clear through her reflections—having closure can be as important for the actors as it is for the audience. With joyful memories pinned against the struggles of the industry, her story serves as a reminder of the deep connections forged through television. While 2 Broke Girls may have ended without the goodbye fans longed for, Behrs finds peace knowing she, at least, could farewell her character on The Neighborhood properly.
