BetBlocker has recently expanded its responsible gambling software by launching an Italian-language version, aimed at increasing accessibility for Italian-speaking users seeking tools to control their gambling habits. This addition marks another significant step for the UK-based charity, known for providing free software to assist individuals with gaming problems. With Italy having one of the largest gambling markets, the need for such resources remains high, especially as recent studies indicate around 3% of the Italian population may be classified as problem gamblers.
The push to translate BetBlocker's software stems from Safer Gambling Analyst Francesco Casartelli, who voluntarily identified the lack of Italian language support on the platform. "Safer gambling is founded on giving help, and being able to do it makes me proud," Casartelli remarked, emphasizing his commitment to extending assistance to Italian speakers. His initiative reflects the growing recognition of the importance of accessible responsible gambling tools.
Duncan Garvie, BetBlocker’s Founder and Trustee, expressed gratitude for Casartelli’s contribution, emphasizing the rare commitment encountered from individuals willing to volunteer their time for such translations. “We’ve encountered some operators, regulators, and charities willing to invest time to help translate BetBlocker. But rarely have we encountered a private person willing to sacrifice their own free time,” Garvie noted.
This Italian version of BetBlocker follows the organization’s previous multilingual expansions, particularly its efforts to accommodate African languages. Earlier, the organization successfully introduced support for Bemba, Nyanja, and Tonga—languages widely spoken in Zambia—as part of their efforts to improve access to self-exclusion tools among underserved communities, backed by partnerships with Entain and Fresh Start Zambia.
Beyond the African continent, BetBlocker is also extending its presence within Europe. During the upcoming European Safer Gambling Week 2024, the charity is teaming up with EveryMatrix to introduce Maltese-language support for its software. This consistent growth highlights BetBlocker’s proactive approach to addressing the significant issue of gambling addiction across various cultural backgrounds.
Notably, BetBlocker’s efforts have been recognized at the highest levels; the organization was named Clarion Gaming’s official charity partner for 2025, integrating responsible gambling messaging at major industry events like ICE Barcelona and iGB Live. This recognition emphasizes BetBlocker's focus not just on providing software but also on promoting awareness about gambling harm and responsible practices.
With the introduction of the Italian version and the developments planned for the near future, BetBlocker is poised to make great strides toward ensuring more people have access to the necessary tools for responsible gambling. The combination of community involvement and strategic partnerships indicates BetBlocker's commitment to adapting its services for diverse populations. Through this comprehensive approach, BetBlocker continues to work toward mitigating the effects of gambling addiction across the globe.
