The highest poverty levels are found in Kabupaten Seluma and Kabupaten Kaur, both at 17%. Meanwhile, other districts near Bengkulu’s city limits, such as Kabupaten Rejang Lebong and Kabupaten Bengkulu Selatan, have poverty rates hovering around 14% and 17%, respectively.
These statistics reveal the varying degrees of poverty across the province, where cities like Bengkulu show promising signs of improvement. "According to Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS), the poverty rate has seen continuous improvement over the past decade," stated a BPS representative, emphasizing the steady progress made.
Continuing to build on this progress, local authorities remain committed to implementing effective strategies to combat poverty. It is anticipated if current trends persist, the city may witness continued reductions in poverty, enhancing residents' quality of life.
Challenges remain, including the need for comprehensive strategies encompassing education, employment, and social services to support the vulnerable sectors of society. The commitment to continuous monitoring and evaluation of these poverty alleviation programs will be key to sustaining the downward trend of poverty rates.
With initiatives already underway, community engagement and support from both government and non-governmental organizations will also play pivotal roles as Bengkulu strives to maintain and build upon its achievements.
