On the night of March 18, 2025, the music world was rocked by the sudden death of beloved Japanese singer Sazan, also known as Sakomoto Michiyo. The singer tragically passed away during a live stream on the platform SHOWROOM, shocking fans and listeners who were tuned in to her performance. During the live broadcast, Sazan exhibited signs of distress, as she unexpectedly began snoring. Listeners quickly noticed the unusual behavior and alerted her management, prompting Fukamoto Shigeaki, her long-time singing partner, to rush to her aid. Sadly, upon arrival, he found Sazan unresponsive and immediately initiated emergency medical services. Despite being transported to the hospital, she was pronounced dead about one hour later, having succumbed to subarachnoid hemorrhage.

Prior to her untimely death, Sazan was actively preparing to celebrate the 10th anniversary of her duo, “Orihime and Hikoboshi.” This partnership was founded out of admiration for her vocal talent and their shared vision for music. Fukamoto recalled, “At the beginning of this year, we sang at Sanoshishi City. Many fans came, and we enjoyed a wonderful performance together.” They also planned to release new music leading up to their anniversary on July 7.
Since rising to fame with their local hit song “Moment of Happiness” released in 2018, Sazan’s contributions to the Tochigi area couldn't be overstated. The duo's charm and relatability endeared them to local audiences, making them beloved figures not only as musicians but as community members.
