Beloved Chef Tomasz Jakubiak Passes Away At 41

After a courageous battle with rare cancer, the culinary star's legacy lives on through his family and fans.

Tomasz Jakubiak, a beloved chef and television personality known for his appearances on "MasterChef Junior" and "MasterChef Nastolatki," passed away on April 30, 2025, at the age of 41 after a prolonged battle with a rare and aggressive cancer. His family announced the heartbreaking news on social media, stating, "With great sorrow, we inform you that Tomek Jakubiak — a beloved father, husband, chef, and man whose heart beat for others — has left us at home, at the table, in everyday life. His departure leaves a void that cannot be described in words. The family requests full respect for privacy and peace during this incredibly difficult time."

Jakubiak's journey with cancer began in the fall of 2024 when he revealed to his fans that he had been diagnosed with a rare gastrointestinal cancer that had metastasized to his bones. Initially, he experienced abdominal pain, which was dismissed by doctors as side effects of antibiotic therapy. It wasn't until he underwent a series of tests, including blood tests, colonoscopy, and MRI, that the alarming diagnosis was confirmed. He shared this experience in a candid interview with Dorota Wellman on "Dzień dobry TVN," where he discussed the gravity of his condition, stating, "This is something that practically does not occur or occurs in less than one percent of people in the world."

As Jakubiak's health deteriorated, he lost significant weight, dropping to just 52 kg. Despite the pain and challenges, he remained resilient, often expressing gratitude for the support of his fans, friends, and family. In late November 2024, a charity dinner organized by his friends and fellow chefs raised over 200,000 zł for his treatment. Jakubiak expressed his gratitude on Instagram, saying, "Yesterday's dinner exceeded our wildest expectations... It was an incredible event. I cried when I saw the joy and love in the people who were there. Thank you all."

In December 2024, he began intensive therapy in Israel, which brought some initial improvement. However, as the disease progressed, he faced the harsh reality that the cancer had spread to his intestines, duodenum, pelvic bones, and spine. In April 2025, Jakubiak was transferred to a hospital in Athens for further treatment. He traveled 2,500 km by ambulance due to fluid in his lungs, a journey that cost approximately 25,000 zł. His fans rallied once again, with over 28,000 individuals contributing more than 1 million zł to support his medical expenses.

Jakubiak's determination to fight cancer was evident in his social media updates. He frequently shared his experiences, encouraging others not to give up in the face of adversity. "The worst thing you can do is lie in bed and wait for something to happen. You have to grab life by the horns and move forward," he advised his followers. His words resonated with many, and he became a source of inspiration for those facing similar challenges.

Despite the grim circumstances, Jakubiak tried to maintain a sense of normalcy. He and his wife, Anastazja, made an effort to enjoy moments together, including a trip to the cinema on Valentine's Day. "Today I decided to fight for Valentine's Day and took Anastazja to the movies, although she was the one pushing the stroller, and I had to take painkillers to last through the two-hour film," he humorously recounted. His love for his family and his desire to be present for them were evident throughout his illness.

Jakubiak often spoke of the immense support he received from his wife, who stood by him through every challenge. "My Anastazja is 100% involved; she fought harder than I did at first. She is my medicine," he said in a previous interview. Their bond was a source of strength for him, and he frequently mentioned how much he cherished his role as a father to their son, Tomasz junior, born in 2020.

As news of his passing spread, tributes poured in from fans and colleagues alike, mourning the loss of a talented chef and a compassionate human being. His family shared their sorrow, emphasizing the profound impact Jakubiak had on those around him. "His departure has left a void that cannot be described in words," they stated, reflecting the sentiments of many who admired him.

Tomasz Jakubiak's legacy as a chef and a media personality will be remembered not just for his culinary skills but for his courage in the face of adversity and his unwavering spirit. He leaves behind a loving wife, Anastazja, and a young son, along with countless fans who were touched by his journey. His story serves as a reminder of the importance of love, support, and resilience in the face of life's challenges.
