Beloved Beaumont Matriarch Diane Living Passes Away At 62

Family and friends remember the life and legacy of a nurturing mother and cherished community member.

The community of Beaumont, Texas, is mourning the loss of Diane Living, affectionately known as "Magget," who passed away before March 25, 2025, after a courageous battle with Stage Four Squamous Cell Carcinoma. Born on March 14, 1963, to Bobbie Jean Mayes Living and Edward Living, Diane was not just a mother; she was a beacon of love and gratitude in her family and community.

Diane's life was steeped in love and faith. She attended Hebert High School and became a devoted member of New Light Baptist Church under the late Rev. Don. Her faith guided her actions, and she often reminded her children and grandchildren of the importance of gratitude, encouraging them to give thanks to God daily before leaving the house. Diane would lead them in a heartfelt morning prayer, teaching them to express their appreciation with words like, "Thank You Jesus For Another Beautiful Day For Waking Me Up. Amen."

Described by many as having a "golden heart," Diane was known for her caring and generous nature, always stretching her arms wide to welcome those in need. Her home was a gathering place filled with love and chaos, especially as she devoted her life to nurturing her nine beautiful children: Derrick Living (Nicole), Trimeka Living, Joseph Living (Latasha), Kortney Living (Anthony), Britney Living, Justin Living, Whitney Living, Shaquinta Living (Cedric), and Qua'meika Smith (Kendrick).

In addition to her children, Diane left behind a legacy of eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, each of whom she cherished deeply. She also remembered her sister, Carolyn Sylvester (Wilbert), and a host of nieces and nephews who will carry her memory forward. Unfortunately, Diane was preceded in death by her mother, father, brother, daughter Kierra Nicole Hall, and two grandchildren, Genesis Ware, along with great-grandbabies Kinley and Kinsley Burns.

Diane's diagnosis of Stage Four Squamous Cell Carcinoma on January 10, 2025, marked a difficult chapter in her life, with the disease having metastasized throughout her body. However, even amidst the challenges, she exemplified strength and courage, choosing to reflect upon her life and the goodness of God. As she faced her final moments, Diane's faith intertwined with her thoughts on material life. She famously stated, "You never seen a U-Haul behind the undertaker," capturing her belief that we cannot take our possessions with us. These reflections brought her peace, allowing her to repent and rededicate her life to Christ.

Diane will be remembered not just for her struggles, but for her unwavering spirit and her ability to bring joy to those around her. Whether through her cooking, dancing, or the lively atmosphere she cultivated wherever she went, Diane was, as many would say, the life of the party.

Funeral services are scheduled for March 29, 2025, at Proctor's Mortuary, located at 3522 Washington Blvd. in Beaumont. Visitation will begin at 8 AM, and the funeral service is set for 11 AM. Following the service, Diane will be laid to rest in Green Lawn II Cemetery, leaving behind her love, spirit, and an enduring positive impact on all who knew her.
