The vibrant city of Belo Horizonte is set to come alive as it gears up for Carnaval 2025, with expectations to break attendance records as over 6 million revelers are anticipated to flood the streets to take part in one of Brazil's most beloved celebrations. From February 28 to March 9, nearly 600 street blocks will be organizing various events, each promising to bring unique music, energy, and activities for everyone.
This year's festivities kick off early with several events already taking place on Friday, February 28. Notable among these is the
"Passa Lá No RH e Me Chama Que Eu Vou!" block at 17:30, located at Rua Tomé de Souza, 853, Savassi. Drawing many who work nearby, this event features music spanning from the 90s and 2000s and is expected to attract thousands of participants eager to unwind after work. Paulinho Oliveira will lead his famed Pagode do Paulinho at Rua Alberto Cintra, 342, Union, where fans of “pagode raiz” can expect to be serenaded by love songs and lively rhythms at 19:00, adding to the Carnival spirit.
Crowning the night's celebrations, the Bloco Fúnebre will begin its homage to Brazilian Sertão culture at 23:59 on Avenida Afonso Pena, 4444, Cruzeiro, where festive chants and colorful costumes will echo throughout the area.
A detailed map of all block events has been prepared, allowing attendees to filter details by date, name, timing, or neighborhood. There will be approximately 17 blocks parading on the inaugural Friday night alone. Participatory blocks include Construsamba kicking off at 15:00 at Rua Henrique Badaro Portugal, 68, Buritis, and the engaging "Os Meninos da Meia-Noite" at Praça Santa Rita, 200, Esplanada commencing at 17:00.
According to local carnaval organizers, the excitement is palpable. "The Carnaval experience is bigger than ever this year, with thousands expected to join the festivities," said one event planner from the organizing committee. There is certainly reason to believe this year’s event will surpass all previous records.
Each day brings diverse lineup, promising to captivate various demographics and interests within the city. With more than 600 groups registered with the BH City Hall, participants can expect about 14 blocks parading throughout the day on Saturday as well. Highlights include the incredible vibe of the Pagode do Paulinho concert and the various family-friendly blocks ensuring everyone, from the youngest to the oldest, has something to enjoy.
For families with children, dedicated children's blocks also promise merriment until March 8. The Baiazinho de Rua and Sambinha da Liberdade are among those set to provide myriad activities and enjoyable experiences using music and education as primary tools for engagement.
One of the unique aspects of this year’s carnaval is the notable inclusivity, extending to the many themed blocks arising around celebrity pop culture and traditions, demonstrating how entertainment continues to evolve within these spirited displays. Festivities will promote engagement, creativity, and have sets targeting both the young and old.
Local officials are extremely pleased with this year’s participation rate and the range of entertainment available. "We have more than 600 groups actively participating, ensuring there's something for everyone," shared the current City Official. This demonstrates the vibrant local community spirit propelling this annual tradition.
With the city prepared to accommodate the influx of visitors, logistics are under tight watch, including street closures and enhanced public services to facilitate the celebrations - ensuring public safety and enjoyment remains priority number one.
The excitement builds as locals and tourists alike count down to the start of what promises to be another unforgettable Carnaval. Whether it’s vibrant music, festive parades, or heartfelt community connections, Carnaval 2025 is shaping up to be one for the ages. Residents are highly encouraged to participate, bringing along family and friends to share the celebratory atmosphere.
