Belgian Weather Forecast Predicts Cold Week Ahead

Temperatures drop as snow and rain make way for clearer skies and frost overnight.

Belgium is bracing for varied weather conditions this week, starting with overcast skies and intermittent light rain, particularly on Tuesday. Limburg can expect predominant cloudiness with temperatures topping out around 5 to 6 degrees Celsius.

On Tuesday, many regions will experience light rain, especially north of the province. With moderate winds from the southwest, temperatures will linger just above freezing at night. The cloud cover is projected to remain thick, but forecasters note potential clear spells may roll in from the south overnight.

By Wednesday, conditions will change slightly as the weather gradually dries up. The temperature is set to rise to 5 °C by the afternoon, accompanied by moderate winds at strength 3. Residents of Bilzen-Hoeselt can expect the day to start with rain but clear up, potentially heralding more consistent updates and reducing the likelihood of wintery precipitation.

The initial days of this week have shown significant cloud cover and alternating chances of (wintery) precipitation as high pressure systems from Scandinavia struggle to keep strong weather fronts at bay. Despite this, total rainfall amounts will remain within manageable limits, with storm systems passing through only moderately, easing the burden on local conditions.

Looking toward the latter part of the week, forecasters are optimistic as precipitation chances decrease and sunshine becomes more frequent. The usual cloudy conditions will give way to sporadic sunshine, allowing temperatures to reach about 6 or 7 degrees, particularly across Flanders with lower wind activity noticed.

Starting Thursday, the weather will turn cooler with daytime temperatures ranging from 2 to 4 degrees, particularly noticeable across the higher terrain of Belgium where temperatures may hover around the freezing point. Meteo analysts indicate by Friday and through the weekend, colder air will prevail due to moderate easterly winds, maintaining mostly dry conditions. Daytime highs will hit around 3 to 4 degrees, but nighttime lows could plunge to between -2 to -6 degrees, especially on the countryside.

The gradual shift back to colder weather is anticipated, yet it may present pleasant sunshine during the day, allowing for enjoyable stretches outdoors. Residents are encouraged to heed changes as the season transitions distinctly, reminding everyone to prepare for the colder months to continue.

By the weekend, dry stretches are set to continue accompanied by routine frost at night, reminding locals to bundle up as winter holds onto the land for just a little longer.
