BCCI Awards INR 58 Crore To India’s Champions Trophy Winning Team

The cash prize recognizes the players' dedication and the team’s historic third title at the ICC Champions Trophy.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially announced a cash reward of INR 58 crore for the players and support staff of the Indian cricket team following their historic victory at the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. This significant prize recognizes the team's remarkable achievements during the tournament and will be shared among the players, coaching staff, and members of the selection committee.

The announcement came on March 20, 2025, just over a week after India secured the Champions Trophy title by defeating New Zealand by four wickets in the final, held on March 9 in Dubai. Under the astute leadership of Captain Rohit Sharma, the team displayed an impressive unbeaten run throughout the tournament, culminating in their victory over the Black Caps to secure India’s third Champions Trophy title in history.

India's journey to the final was marked by a series of dominant performances, beginning with a solid six-wicket win against Bangladesh, followed by another six-wicket triumph over their arch-rivals, Pakistan. In the group stages, the team showcased their prowess with a commanding 44-run victory against New Zealand, which ultimately helped them top the league stage.

The semi-final saw India face Australia, a rematch after the two teams contested the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Final. The Indian bowlers put on a stellar display, bowling Australia out for 264 runs, while Virat Kohli steered the chase with a superb 84 runs.

The final match was held in an electrifying atmosphere, where India once again faced New Zealand. The spinners proved crucial in holding New Zealand to a total of 251 runs, with impressive bowling figures from Ravindra Jadeja (1/30), Varun Chakaravarthy (2/45), and Kuldeep Yadav (2/40). Rohit Sharma led the batting charge with a spirited 76 runs, enabling India to chase down the target with four wickets in hand.

Roger Binny, the BCCI President and former international cricketer, expressed pride in the team's achievement, stating, "Winning back-to-back ICC titles is special and this reward recognizes Team India’s dedication and excellence on the global stage." He emphasized that the cash award serves as a recognition of the hard work and efforts put in behind the scenes by everyone involved in Indian cricket.

Devajit Saikia, Honorary Secretary of the BCCI, echoed a similar sentiment, highlighting that the team's success is a testament to the deep-rooted cricket culture in India. He predicted further achievements for the Indian cricket team in the years ahead, noting, "This victory has justified India’s top ranking in white-ball cricket, and we are sure the team will continue to excel in the years to come."

The total cash prize of INR 58 crore not only serves as a financial boost for the players and staff but also reflects the growing respect and recognition for their contributions to cricket. This is particularly relevant given that the Men in Blue bagged nearly INR 20 crore ($2.24 million) as official prize money for lifting the Champions Trophy title, while the runners-up, New Zealand, received $1.12 million (approximately INR 9.72 crore).

As the cricketing world celebrates India's latest achievement, fans and analysts alike are eager to see how this victory will influence the future of Indian cricket. The confluence of talent, hard work, and a supportive cricketing ecosystem showcases a promising outlook for the team as they continue to compete at the highest levels.

In conclusion, the BCCI's hefty cash reward is not just an acknowledgment of past successes but a boost for the future aspirations of Indian cricket. With each title strengthens the legacy of the sport in the country, the expectations on the players and officials will only grow as they strive for more glory on the international stage.
