On March 29, 2025, the program "Tinh hoa văn hóa Bắc Ninh - Sắc màu tranh Đông Hồ" was introduced at the Hoan Kiem Lake walking space in Hanoi, organized by the People's Committee of Bắc Ninh province in collaboration with the Vietnamese UNESCO Committee. This event aims to promote the cultural heritage of Bắc Ninh and advocate for the recognition of Dong Ho folk painting as an intangible cultural heritage in need of urgent protection by UNESCO.

Among the attendees were Nguyễn Anh Tuấn, Member of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee of Bắc Ninh, along with representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Vietnamese UNESCO Committee, and various ambassadors and international organizations. Secretary Nguyễn Anh Tuấn emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting the cultural values of Quan Ho, which has been recognized by UNESCO as a representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity for 15 years.

"After 15 years of UNESCO's recognition of Bắc Ninh Quan Ho folk songs as a representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity, Bắc Ninh has preserved and promoted the cultural value of Quan Ho throughout the country and globally," he stated. The province has implemented various policies to honor and support artisans, develop original Quan Ho villages, and encourage young people to learn and practice these folk songs.

The program "Tinh hoa văn hóa Bắc Ninh - Sắc màu tranh Đông Hồ" is designed to garner support for the recognition of "Dong Ho folk painting" as an intangible cultural heritage in need of urgent protection. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ngô Lê Văn affirmed the commitment of the Ministry and other stakeholders to this goal, stating that sincere collaboration and love for traditional values will help continue the story of this heritage.

During the event, attendees enjoyed performances of Quan Ho folk songs, including "Mời nước mời trầu" and "Trảy hội Xuân," featuring artists from the Bắc Ninh Quan Ho Folk Theater and students from Đồng Kỵ 1 Kindergarten. The event also showcased traditional craft products, including Dong Ho paintings, Phu Lang pottery, and Xuan Hoi bamboo weaving, among others.

The exhibition areas were designed to resemble traditional houses, creating an immersive cultural experience. Visitors had the opportunity to interact with artisans and learn about the history and techniques behind the crafts. This event not only highlights the artistic values of Bắc Ninh but also aims to connect tourism between Bắc Ninh and Hanoi, attracting both domestic and international visitors.

Dong Ho paintings are a traditional art form that reflects the customs, beliefs, and daily life of the Vietnamese people. The dossier to nominate Dong Ho painting for UNESCO recognition is currently under consideration and is expected to be appraised in 2025. This program is a crucial step in promoting the cultural heritage of Bắc Ninh and advocating for the urgent protection of Dong Ho folk painting.

As the event unfolds over two days, March 29-30, 2025, it serves as a platform to introduce the unique cultural values of Bắc Ninh - Kinh Bắc, particularly the significance of Dong Ho folk paintings. The program not only aims to preserve and promote traditional cultural values but also to expand tourism connections between Bắc Ninh and other regions, thereby enhancing the visibility of Vietnamese culture on the global stage.
