BBVA Launches Scholarship Program For Low-Income Students

The Chavos que Inspiran initiative aims to support educational access and success for Mexican youth.

BBVA has launched the "Chavos que Inspiran" scholarship program aimed at supporting low-income Mexican students as they transition from secondary school to university. This initiative, spearheaded by Fundación BBVA México, is designed to foster social mobility and ensure that students can continue their education despite financial hardships. With a goal of promoting educational success, the program has already made a significant impact, as evidenced by the fact that eight out of ten beneficiaries are the first in their families to complete higher education.

The scholarship is specifically targeted at students entering the first year of secondary school in public institutions during the 2025-2026 academic year. To qualify, applicants must meet several criteria:

  • Be a Mexican citizen.

  • Be enrolled in the first year of secondary school at a public institution with official recognition.

  • Have a minimum primary school average of 8.0.

  • Demonstrate a need for financial assistance to continue their studies.

The financial support offered through the scholarship is substantial. Selected students will receive $2,000 MXN monthly for up to ten months, with the possibility of extending this support through university as long as they maintain the required academic performance. This continuity is crucial, as it allows students to focus on their studies without the constant worry of financial constraints.

Registration for the BBVA scholarship for 2025 is open from March 18 to May 4, 2025. Interested applicants must complete a series of steps to secure their place:

  • Register online to receive a temporary username and password within 24 hours.

  • Complete a socioeconomic study and upload the necessary documentation by May 4.

  • Take talent assessments, with results announced on September 29, 2025.

  • Follow the "Supérate con Fundación BBVA" learning path, completing it by May 11, 2025.

In addition to financial aid, the program offers various educational resources tailored to different school levels. Secondary school students will receive training in financial education, digital skills, and socio-emotional abilities. High school students may benefit from vocational guidance and study techniques, while university students are provided with mentorship, leadership training, and online English courses.

This comprehensive support structure not only aims to alleviate immediate financial burdens but also equips students with essential skills for their future careers. The BBVA initiative stands out as a vital resource for students who might otherwise struggle to complete their education.

Moreover, the BBVA Foundation is committed to ensuring that the scholarship program is accessible to all eligible students. To apply, students must have an active email address, as this will be critical for communication throughout the application process. Additionally, all required documents must be submitted in appropriate formats (PDF, JPG, or PNG) and must not exceed 12MB in size.

For students with disabilities, BBVA also offers the “Beca BBVA para Chavos con Discapacidad que Inspiran.” This scholarship is designed for secondary school, high school, university, and vocational training students who meet specific eligibility requirements:

  • Must be Mexican citizens living in Mexico.

  • Must attend an officially recognized school during the 2025-2026 academic year.

  • Must have a disability certificate from an authorized public institution, such as the Secretaría de Salud or IMSS.

  • Must demonstrate a need for financial support to continue their education or vocational training.

This initiative ensures that students with disabilities also have access to the resources they need to succeed academically. The BBVA Foundation is dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment where all students, regardless of their circumstances, can pursue their educational goals.

As part of its broader commitment to educational equity, BBVA is also launching a new financial incentive for families. The bank is offering a bonus of 65 euros for each beneficiary who deposits a state or regional scholarship into the "Cuenta Online para Menores" (Online Account for Minors). To qualify, a parent or legal guardian must register the minor and include the code “BECA65.” This initiative aims to ease the financial burdens of families and encourage responsible financial management among young students.

In summary, the BBVA "Chavos que Inspiran" scholarship program represents a significant investment in the future of Mexican youth. By providing financial support, educational resources, and incentives for families, BBVA is helping to create a pathway for students to achieve their academic aspirations and improve their socioeconomic status. With the registration period opening soon, many young Mexicans may find the opportunity to change their lives through education.
