Banks Closed For Semana Santa In Mexico

As Maundy Thursday and Good Friday approach, banking services will be limited during the holiday period.

As Semana Santa 2025 unfolds, many people are taking the opportunity to enjoy vacations or family time. However, it’s essential to keep in mind the banking schedule during this holiday period. This Maundy Thursday, April 17, and Good Friday, April 18, banks across Mexico will be closed.

According to the National Banking and Securities Commission (CNBV), which oversees financial institutions in the country, these closures are in accordance with the official holiday calendar. The Secretariat of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP) also supports this decision. Therefore, if you need to conduct any banking transactions, it is advisable to do so before Wednesday, April 16. Banking services will resume on Monday, April 21.

Despite the closure of bank branches, banking operations will not come to a complete halt. The Mexican Banking Association (ABM) has confirmed that users can still access over 64,000 ATMs and 56,900 banking correspondents throughout the country. Additionally, services such as digital banking, telephone banking, and electronic banking will remain available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

For those wondering what other banking services will be available during Semana Santa, the ABM emphasizes that while physical branches are closed, several banks will continue operating in commercial stores and supermarkets on Maundy Thursday during their regular hours. This means that if you need to make urgent payments or transactions, you can still do so at these locations.

It’s important to note that the CNBV has designated specific holidays when banks will not operate throughout 2025. These include:

  • Wednesday, January 1
  • Monday, February 3
  • Monday, March 17
  • Thursday, April 17
  • Friday, April 18
  • Thursday, May 1
  • Tuesday, September 16
  • Monday, November 17
  • Friday, December 12
  • Thursday, December 25

For those who typically rely on in-person banking services, it’s crucial to plan ahead. If you find yourself needing to make a transaction on a holiday, remember that the ATMs will still be operational, and you can conduct banking through various digital platforms.

As the holiday approaches, many people may be concerned about potential delays in payments or transactions. However, it’s reassuring to know that if a payment is due on one of these non-working days, it will not incur penalties as long as it is completed on the next business day. This flexibility allows individuals to manage their finances without the added stress of holiday closures.

For those who prefer to avoid any last-minute rush, it’s advisable to complete any necessary banking transactions well in advance of the holiday. With the myriad of banking options available, including ATMs and digital services, users have the ability to manage their finances effectively, even during holiday periods.

In summary, while banks will be closed on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, there are still numerous ways to access banking services. With over 64,000 ATMs and various digital banking options, customers can continue to conduct transactions without interruption. So, whether you're planning a holiday getaway or simply enjoying time with family, make sure to keep these banking schedules in mind.

As we look ahead, it’s essential to stay informed about the banking calendar and plan accordingly. The CNBV and SHCP provide this information to help consumers navigate their financial needs during holiday periods. By being proactive and utilizing available resources, you can ensure that your banking needs are met, even during Semana Santa.
