Baja California Braces For Extreme Weather This Easter

Residents prepare for rain, strong winds, and cool temperatures during holiday weekend.

As Baja California approaches the Easter holiday, residents are bracing for extreme weather conditions, including strong winds and rain. The State Civil Protection Coordination (CEPC) has issued warnings about a new cold front that will affect the region from April 16 to April 18, 2025. According to the National Meteorological Service (SMN), Tijuana, Tecate, and Playas de Rosarito are expected to experience an increase in wind intensity, with isolated to moderate showers likely during this period.

On Thursday, April 17, 2025, Tijuana will start the day under cloudy skies, which are forecast to clear in the afternoon. The maximum temperature is expected to reach 18°C, creating a cool yet pleasant environment for outdoor activities. Winds will blow from the west-southwest at speeds between 15 and 25 km/h, with a 24% chance of rain, indicating that a light drizzle is possible. As night falls, temperatures will stabilize at a minimum of 13°C, with wind speeds decreasing to 10 to 15 km/h.

Salvador Cervantes Hernández, the state coordinator of Civil Protection, explained that the upcoming weather conditions are a result of a combination of a trough in altitude interacting with polar and subtropical jet streams, alongside the arrival of the new cold front. He emphasized the importance of securing outdoor objects and staying informed about weather updates, especially for those traveling on roads or near coastal areas.

As the cold front moves in, Friday, April 18, will see more significant weather changes. The forecast predicts intervals of showers, wind gusts reaching up to 80 kilometers per hour, dust storms in various areas, and elevated waves of 1 to 2 meters along the west coast of the peninsula. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and prepare for these intense weather conditions.

In addition to Tijuana, other municipalities in Baja California will also experience varied weather patterns. In Ensenada, the maximum temperature will be 19°C with a minimum of 12°C and a 21% chance of rain. Mexicali is expected to be warmer, with maximum temperatures reaching 27°C and clear skies, while Rosarito will see a maximum of 17°C and a 24% chance of rain. Tecate will experience cooler temperatures, with highs of 16°C and a 23% chance of rain during the day, increasing to 44% at night. San Quintín will have a maximum of 18°C with a 20% chance of rain, while San Felipe enjoys mostly clear skies with a minimal 1% chance of rain and a maximum temperature of 24°C.

As the holiday weekend approaches, many are left wondering how the weather will impact Easter celebrations. With the potential for rain and strong winds, outdoor events may need to be adjusted or moved indoors. Local authorities are advising residents to stay updated on weather forecasts and to take necessary precautions.

In summary, Baja California is set to experience a mix of weather conditions as the region transitions into the Easter holiday weekend. With the potential for rain, strong winds, and cooler temperatures, it’s important for residents to remain prepared and informed.
