Nikki Glaser's joke about Sean 'Diddy' Combs at the 2025 Golden Globes has sparked backlash, including from lawyers representing alleged victims of Diddy.
Ariel Mitchell and Tyrone Blackburn, attorneys for the victims, have criticized the comedian's attempt to make light of the situation. Mitchell said she "hopes Nikki herself has never been sexually assaulted or mocked for it." She added, "One would think Nikki, being a woman, would knowbetter" and stated, "Making light of this ugly situation is exactly why so many sexual assault victims never come forward and report their abuse." Blackburn echoed these sentiments, stating to TMZ, "I'd expect a comedian of Nikki's success to find humorthat doesn't make light of drugging and rape."
Nikki hosted the 82nd Annual Golden Globes solo on Sunday, January 5, marking the first time a woman has done so. During her monologue, the 40-year-old comedian made a controversial joke involving the disgraced music mogul related to the tennis drama Challengers, starring Zendaya, Mike Faist, and Josh O'Connor. "That movie was more sexually charged than Diddy's credit card," she quipped. "I mean, seriously, I'm upset too. The after party isn't going to be as good this year, but we have to move on. A Stanley Tucci freak-off doesn't have the same ring to it. No baby oil this year - just lots of olive oil."
Glaser was referencing the seizure of 1,000 bottles of lube and baby oil from Diddy's home last September, claimed by authorities to be supplies for the rapper's alleged "freak off" parties. His parties were where he allegedly "used force, threats of force and coercion, to cause victims to engage in extended sex acts." Diddy is currently behind bars at Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center, facing serious charges including sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to engage in prostitution. The 55-year-old rapper was nabbed at the Park Hyatt hotel in New York City and hit with an indictment in September 2024, as reported by the Mirror US.
According to the indictment, Diddy allegedly led a "criminal enterprise" where he "abused, threatened, and coerced women and others around him to fulfill his sexual desires, protect his reputation, and conceal his conduct." If found guilty of the charges, Diddy could potentially spend the rest of his lifein prison. Despite the grave accusations, Diddy has maintained his innocence, pleading not guilty and refuting the escalated claims. His requests for release have been repeatedly denied, ensuring he remains in custody until his trial scheduled for May 2025. The Mirror has reached out to Nikki's representatives for comment.
