Bachelor Star Sean Lowe Attacked By Rescue Dog Moose

After being mauled by his pet, Lowe shares the story of survival and the challenges faced by rescue dogs

Sean Lowe, the former star of "The Bachelor," faced a harrowing ordeal this past weekend when he was attacked by his rescue dog, Moose. On Monday, March 17, Lowe shared the shocking incident through a video on his Instagram account. Accompanied by his wife Catherine Giudici, Lowe provided followers with the full story behind what he described as traumatic and life-threatening.

According to Lowe, the attack occurred on Thursday, March 13, 2025, as he was barbecuing with friends at his home in Texas. The evening took a turn when smoke from the grill triggered the fire alarm, prompting chaos. "Hey everybody. I guess you could say our family has been through something pretty traumatic over the weekend," Lowe said, visibly shaken yet determined to narrate the events. Catherine, sitting beside him with tears in her eyes, supported him as he recounted the terrifying events.

While Lowe was attempting to manage the smoke alarm, Moose, whom the family had adopted just months prior, reacted aggressively. "Moose came up and bit the dish rag I was holding and nipped my finger really aggressively, which is something he does not do," he explained. Afterward, Lowe noted how the dog began to bite his feet so fiercely it left holes in his shoes, which he initially shrugged off.

Despite attempts to calm the animal with stern commands, the situation escalated. "I don’t mean like bite and run off — I mean attacks me," he said. The dog's aggression turned dire as Moose lunged at his arm, leaving Lowe with severe cuts. "I feel him just kind of ripping the flesh of my arm," the 41-year-old TV personality recounted, adding, "At this point, I am doing everything I possibly can just to fend this dog off. I was bleeding badly."

With the severity of the situation rising, Lowe managed to wrestle Moose outside, but the relief was short-lived. The dog quickly returned, launching another attack. Lowe shared, "I looked down at my arm and saw blood squirting probably a couple of feet. I thought the dog may have nicked an artery."

Thanks to the swift actions of his friends, Lowe was rushed to the ER, where he received stitches for his injuries. Doctors treated deep cuts on both arms, reportedly stitching Lowe up in five or six places. "I thank God my friends were there to help me out," he added, grateful yet shaken by the evening’s events.

The next day, Friday, March 14, 2025, following the injuries from the previous night, Lowe faced another ordeal. After ensuring his children were safe and his parents arrived to take them for the day, Moose escaped through the open double doors and launched yet another attack on Lowe. "He made a bee-line right at me, just lunged and started attacking me again," Lowe recalled. "I’m waiting for my parents to show up. I hear Catherine shouting no as I see Moose running out the front door."

Lowe, now fearing for his life, tackled Moose and held him down for approximately ten minutes until police arrived. "It took everything I had to control this dog. It’s terrifying to think what could have happened if it were anyone else," he reflected as he recalled his harrowing struggle. Eventually, Lowe was once again transported to the ER, where he received additional medical treatment for his injuries.

Despite the trauma and demanding circumstances, Lowe maintained throughout the ordeal his compassion for Moose. He assessed the situation clearly, stating, "I don’t blame Moose at all" and explained how the rescue dog had experienced considerable trauma before their adoption. "He had a lot of trauma before we adopted him," Lowe noted. While the Lowe family made the difficult decision to re-home Moose following the multiple attacks, they still felt unsettled, reflecting on their brief time together.

Over the weekend, Sean and Catherine, who married back in 2014, received support from fans and loved ones. Sean reassured his followers, realizing the importance of transparency on social media. "We’ve been really transparent over the years on social media. Like I said, you guys I’m sure would ask questions about Moose or why are your arms disfigured," he stated, illustrating his commitment to openness.

After everything, Lowe concluded his Instagram video by expressing his fondness for Moose, saying, "We miss our dog, as weird as it might sound. He was a really good dog, and we miss him." The gravity of his experience has ignited discussions about the challenges of integrating rescue animals, especially those with complex backgrounds.

This incident emphasizes the importance of recognizing and addressing trauma associated with adopted pets. Many rescue dogs come with past experiences—both physical and emotional—that can manifest unpredictably. Lowe's experience sheds light on the need for awareness and effective training methods for both the dogs and their owners. The Lowe family had adopted Moose believing they could provide him with the love and care he deserved, but the unexpected aggression served as stark reminder of the challenges involved.

With the decision to look for a new home for Moose, Lowe ends his emotional narrative with appreciation for his supportive family and friends. Now having undergone the ordeal, the Lowe family is left to reflect on their choices and the heart-wrenching difficulty of saying goodbye to their beloved dog, who unexpectedly turned aggressive. The emotional toll it has taken has opened discussions around the importance of early assessments and training for rescue dogs, as many potential adopters may not recognize the behavioral issues inherent in dogs who have experienced trauma.

The Lowe family continues to navigate recovery from the incident, with Sean rightfully feeling fortunate to have emerged alive, grateful for the support during this unprecedented situation.
