Avispa Fukuoka Unveils Ambitious 2025 Season Roster

The team aims for improvement with strategic signings and strong youth integration as they prepare for the new season

Avispa Fukuoka has unveiled its roster for the 2025 season, showcasing strategic moves aimed at boosting their performance following last season's challenges. The club's management believes these changes will position them as serious contenders for success as they prepare for the upcoming season.

The new arrivals feature notable signings, including the return of goalkeeper Yohei Takeda, who previously played for the club before his stint at FC Gifu. Takeda expressed his excitement upon returning, stating, "I am thrilled to wear the Avispa jersey again and will give my utmost to help the team achieve its goals." His experience is expected to anchor the team's defensive line.

Alongside Takeda, Avispa has signed defender Kenta Fukuda from Vissel Kobe and midfielder Tatsuya Tanaka from Nagoya Grampus, both of whom bring invaluable experience to the squad. Fukuda shared his discussions with coach Shinji Kobayashi, saying, "The coach’s vision for the team aligns with my desire to contribute positively to Avispa. I can't wait to get started!" Tanaka, known for his offensive prowess, noted, "I am eager to bring my skills to the table and support our attack this season."

Departures have also played a significant role in shaping the new roster. The club announced the exit of veteran midfielder Daichi Suga, who has decided to retire after 15 years of service to the team. Suga was pivotal during his time at Avispa and leaves behind a legacy of leadership. "I will forever cherish my time here and hope the team reaches new heights," he stated.

The club struggled last season, finishing mid-table. Avispa's management is hopeful these roster changes, along with the retention of key players like forward Yuya Akasaki, will lead to an improved performance. Akasaki was the squad’s top scorer last season, and his continued presence is seen as fundamental to the team's attacking capabilities.

The head coach emphasized the need for competitive spirit among the players, remarking, "The new signings, combined with our existing talent, create the depth we need to push for higher league standings. Each player must bring their best performance to the pitch every match day."

The club is also focusing on youth development, promoting several promising players from its academy to the first team. The latest batch includes midfielder Riku Nagai and defender Koichi Matsumoto, who have impressed during pre-season activities. Coach Kobayashi believes this youth integration will blend energy and fresh talent with the seasoned players, creating a balanced squad.

Fans are eagerly anticipating the start of the season, hoping the new players can contribute significantly. The management has encouraged supporters to back the team passionately, stating, "With the right support, we believe we can achieve great things this year. We want to create memorable moments together."

Avispa Fukuoka’s opening match for the season is set against local rivals Yoshitaka Katsuura on February 16, 2025, which is expected to draw significant interest from the community, highlighting the club's ambition to reclaim pride among the J.League clubs.

With the new roster unveiled, the stage is set for what promises to be an exciting season for Avispa Fukuoka. The club aims not only for improvement in their standings but also to rekindle the love and support from their passionate fanbase, ensuring 2025 is one to be remembered.
