The remains of Daniela Martell Orozco have been confirmed after being missing since January 6, 2025. The confirmation was made by the Fiscalía General del Estado de San Luis Potosí (FGE) following weeks of investigation and forensic analysis.
According to reports, Daniela, 44, was last seen after attending dinner on the evening of her disappearance. Soon after her family reported her missing, authorities launched extensive searches. On January 17, 2025, her remains were discovered near Zaragoza, where her vehicle had been located, burned out and abandoned.
The FGE indicated these remains were identified through comprehensive testing by the Laboratorio de Genética Forense. "De acuerdo al dictamen emitido por la Vicefiscalía Científica, se obtuvo que los restos óseos...corresponden a la víctima," the prosecution said, confirming the tragic news to her grieving family.
Alongside the identification of her remains came the arrest of five individuals linked to the alleged kidnapping and murder of Daniela. Among those detained is Paloma 'N', who previously ran for mayor of Villa de Zaragoza. The arrests were executed based on substantial evidence gathered during the investigation.
"Los presuntos responsables fueron presentados ante un juez de control...acusados de los delitos de secuestro agravado y homicidio calificado," the FGE reported. The suspects face severe charges and will be represented before the court shortly.
The investigation indicates Daniela’s body had been disposed of, as it was revealed she had been subjected to horrific treatment, including having her remains dissolved in acid. Initial analysis prompted the forensic scientists to wait for genetic results before confirming her identity. "El cuerpo había sido disuelto en ácido por lo que tuvieron que esperar los resultados de genética forense para confirmar la identidad de Daniela," stated the authorities, highlighting the tragic circumstances surrounding her death.
The community of San Luis Potosí has expressed outrage and sorrow surrounding the case, leading to numerous protests demanding justice for Daniela. Family members and supporters have rallied for greater attention to safety concerns, especially pertaining to women, who have been victims of rising violence.
The authorities have assured the public they are committed to pursuing justice. Several public demonstrations have attracted attention to the case, raising awareness of the need for more stringent measures against gender-based violence.
With the legal proceedings now underway, the families of victims continue to hope for justice and accountability from the judicial system. The FGE has stated this remains an open case, with investigations continuing to determine whether more parties are involved and to secure any additional evidence.
The community and supporters would follow the developments closely as they grapple with the loss of Daniela Martell Orozco, whose case has become emblematic of the struggles many face against violent crime.
Efforts to reform safety systems and establish more effective protocols to protect women have gained momentum, with Daniela's story shining a light on these urgent issues. The FGE added, "We will continue to investigate until all those responsible are brought to justice," emphasizing their commitment to solving the case fully.
