Australian Businesses Bloom On Valentine's Day

From florists to chocolatiers, companies are offering special promotions to capture the spirit of love this Valentine's Day.

This Valentine’s Day, Australian businesses are embracing romance with vibrant displays of affection and special promotions, creating opportunities for consumers to express their love. From fulfilling florists to generous chocolatiers, the lead-up to this significant day has seen heightened commercial activities, showcasing how companies cater to the needs of romantics nationwide.

Brisbane Flower Markets at Rocklea is stepping up its game this year, proclaiming it to be one of their busiest Valentine’s seasons yet. Ann Robins, spokesperson for the market, revealed, “Valentine’s Day is the second biggest day in a florist’s calendar, only topped by Mother’s Day.” This year, the Friday date of Valentine’s Day is particularly advantageous, leading to increased weekday sales as romantics send flowers to work.

Robins noted the massive demand, “Normally, BFM wholesalers would sell around 20,000 stems of roses. But for Valentine’s Day, they have already sold close to 150,000 stems.” The market is gearing up to meet the demand, with retail sales expected to triple compared to regular weeks.

Flowers aren’t the only things making headlines this Valentine’s. Chocolatiers are also getting creative, showing their heartfelt enthusiasm for the day. Haigh’s Chocolates from Adelaide is once again donating part of the proceeds from every large milk or dark chocolate heart sold to Variety - the Children’s Charity. Fiona Krawczyk, spokesperson for Haigh’s, emphasized the impact of their customers' choices: “By choosing this product, our customers are making more of a difference than they may realise.”

Fellow confectioner Darrell Lea is launching its first-ever heart-shaped chocolate for the occasion, building on its history as well. The company was founded by Harry Lea, who invented the famous Rocklea Road as a gift for his wife on Valentine’s Day, cementing both sweet treats and heartfelt tokens as integral parts of the holiday.

Marketing agency Hatched is celebrating its 12th birthday alongside Valentine’s Day, making its loyal partnerships known through public displays of affection across major city roads. CEO Stephen Fisher noted, “Our goal has always been to build partnerships lasting 20 years or more. Just like any great relationship, it takes care, commitment, and a little bit of love.” With placements visible on Sydney’s General Holmes Drive and the M4 Motorway, as well as several Melbourne locations, the agency hopes to show appreciation to clients and partners alike.

RedZed, specializing in financing options for self-employed Australians, is also launching a Valentine’s Day promotion aimed at small business owners. Its campaign, titled “With love, from RedZed,” involves significant reductions on interest rates and application fees. Managing director Calvin Cordle stated, “We’re sharing the love with brokers and the self-employed this Valentine’s Day, and for the foreseeable future, by lowering most of our rates.” The initiative reflects RedZed’s commitment to supporting small businesses, which are currently facing challenges due to high interest rates and low consumer confidence.

Overall, Valentine’s Day brings more than romance; it stimulates local economies through flourishing sales for flowers, chocolates, and promotions from various companies. It’s clear this beloved day is not just about hearts and flowers, but also about community, support, and the joy of giving. Whether it's through sweet treats or beautiful arrangements, Australians are finding new ways to celebrate love, creating memorable experiences and delightful outcomes along the way.
