Austin Vandegrift Wins 2024 Texas 6A Division 2 Championship

Brendan Fournier shines with two touchdowns as Vandegrift edges Southlake Carroll 24-17 at AT&T Stadium.

Austin Vandegrift secured the Texas 6A Division 2 football championship, overcoming Southlake Carroll with a final score of 24-17 at AT&T Stadium on Saturday afternoon. This thrilling contest drew 26,247 spectators, and it was Vandegrift's first championship win.

The standout performance came from Vandegrift's Brendan Fournier, who rushed for 160 yards and scored two touchdowns, leading his team to victory. Meanwhile, quarterback Miles Teodecki continued to impress, completing 14 of 17 passes for 248 yards and throwing two touchdowns, including a remarkable 84-yard connection with fellow receiver George Farley.

Notably, Teodecki's passing prowess is highlighted by his touchdown pass to Fournier, which came during the second quarter and helped extend Vandegrift's lead. Farley himself turned out to be another key player, ending up with four receptions for 134 yards.

On the other side, Southlake Carroll's efforts also shone through, especially from quarterback Angelo Renda, who completed 27 of 38 passes for 351 yards. His receiving corps was potent, with Brody Knowles catching for 75 yards and scoring one touchdown, alongside Brock Boyd who led the Dragons with 178 receiving yards and also notched another touchdown.

The game started off with Southlake's fast-paced offense, scoring first with Renda's 9-yard pass to Knowles. But Vandegrift clawed back, as they showcased their resilience and determination throughout the remainder of the game.

Vandegrift's defense, driven by MVP Scott Buchanan, played a pivotal role, stalling Southlake's momentum whenever it surged. This defensive effort was instrumental, as they forced key turnovers and limited Carroll's scoring opportunities.

The excitement did not end after the final whistle. Vandegrift's players and coaches gathered for what will surely be one of their most cherished memories, celebrating their hard-fought triumph. Head coach Drew Sanders proudly displayed the championship trophy, epitomizing the spirit of teamwork and unity.

This victory marks not only the end of the season but also the beginning of Vandegrift's legacy. With the core of their team returning next season, fans are hopeful for another championship run.

The game was more than just a title; it was a showcase of young athletic talent and determination. Coaches and players alike emphasized the hard work and dedication exemplified by their teams throughout the season, culminating in this championship win.

The future looks bright for Vandegrift as they uplift their community with this achievement. With passionate fan support and strong leadership from players like Teodecki and Fournier, the Vipers aim to continue their winning ways.
