Audioteka Holds Contest Featuring Szczepan Twardoch's Toyota Land Cruiser

Audioteka is launching a unique contest that offers participants a chance to win a 2004 Toyota Land Cruiser, previously owned by renowned Polish author Szczepan Twardoch. Valued at 81,000 zł, this rugged vehicle has an impressive history, having traveled 20,000 kilometers on some of the most challenging front-line roads in Ukraine over the past year.

The contest invites entrants to write a story in which the Toyota plays a central role, with submissions ranging from 2,500 to 5,000 characters. The deadline for submissions is set for April 30, 2025, with the top ten stories to be announced on May 15, 2025. The winner will be revealed no later than June 2, 2025. Interested participants can send their entries via email to [email protected], including their full name, date of birth, and place of residence.

Twardoch, known for his impactful novels including "Król" and its sequel "Królestwo," has a deep connection to the Land Cruiser, which he describes as a classic off-roader that is built to last. In a recent interview, he reflected on the vehicle's reliability, stating, "This Land Cruiser has served its purpose well, carrying me through the toughest terrains without fail. Without it, my latest novel 'Null' would not have been possible."

The Toyota Land Cruiser is noted for its sturdy construction, featuring a frame-based design and a dependable diesel engine that is known for its longevity. Twardoch emphasized the vehicle's resilience, mentioning that it can easily reach half a million kilometers without major issues. He took special care to preserve it from common problems such as rusting, ensuring it remains in excellent condition for its next owner.

In addition to the contest, Twardoch will also be appearing on the popular Polish talk show, "Kuba Wojewódzki," on April 1, 2025, alongside actress Vanessa Aleksander. During the episode, Twardoch will recount a memorable author meeting where he faced an unexpected question from an audience member. "Why aren’t you locked up in a psychiatric hospital?" was the surprising inquiry posed by an older gentleman, who was accompanied by a group of young men with nationalistic views.

Twardoch humorously recalled the moment, stating, "To be honest, I wasn't sure how to respond at first. I told him that no one has diagnosed me yet." The incident took a turn when a librarian warned Twardoch after the event that the group was waiting for him outside. This encounter, while unsettling, adds to the narrative of Twardoch's experiences as a public figure navigating complex societal issues.

As a writer, Twardoch has consistently tackled significant themes related to identity, history, and culture, often drawing from his own experiences and the socio-political landscape of Poland. He openly expresses his attachment to Silesian culture, which is a recurring motif in his works.

The upcoming episode of "Kuba Wojewódzki" promises to be an engaging watch, highlighting Twardoch's wit and insights into contemporary issues. Viewers can tune in on TVN at 20:55 or catch the episode online through the Player and Max streaming services.

With the contest and his television appearance, Twardoch continues to engage with his audience in meaningful ways, showcasing his literary talent and personal anecdotes that resonate with many. The Toyota Land Cruiser contest not only celebrates his connection to the vehicle but also invites fans to share their own stories, making it a unique opportunity for creativity and expression.

As the contest deadline approaches, aspiring writers are encouraged to craft their narratives, with the chance to win a piece of history that has traversed the rugged landscapes of Ukraine. Twardoch's Land Cruiser is more than just a vehicle; it embodies the spirit of adventure and resilience that resonates deeply with those who appreciate both literature and life’s journeys.

This contest serves as a testament to Audioteka's commitment to fostering creativity and engagement within the literary community, while also celebrating the profound stories that connect us all.
