The automotive market is gearing up for the launch of the new Audi A6 Avant, scheduled for order from March 2025 and available for delivery by the end of May 2025. Retaining its iconic name, the A6 Avant marks Audi's commitment to traditional nomenclature, which had briefly been considered for change. Instead of being rebranded as the A7, the A6 Avant will feature alongside its electric counterpart, the A6 e-tron, continuing to serve as Audi's flagship station wagon.
According to Audi CEO Gernot Döllner, "We are writing the next chapter of our Avant history: The new Audi A6 combines elegant and dynamic design with outstanding aerodynamics." The A6 Avant is poised to deliver on expectations of sportiness and efficiency with its sleek design, complemented by the advanced Mild-Hybrid Technology MHEV plus.
The Audi A6 Avant has undergone significant changes, now measuring 4.99 meters long, which is 60 millimeters more than the previous model. Its wheelbase remains at 2.927 millimeters, providing stability and comfort both on the road and during long-distance travel. It's also almost 1.88 meters wide, with the rear seats foldable 40:20:40 for practical loading, resulting in up to 1,534 liters of trunk space.
A standout feature of the A6 Avant is its impressive aerodynamic efficiency, with a drag coefficient of just 0.25—the best figure for any Audi Avant equipped with traditional combustion engines. The car's exterior features encompass sleek lines, prominent air curtains, and a revised single-frame grille, adding to its sporty yet elegant appearance.
Engine-wise, the new Audi A6 Avant will offer three options at launch: the base 2.0 TFSI producing 204 PS (150 kW), the 3.0 TFSI V6 with 367 PS (270 kW), and the 2.0 TDI diesel variant also generating 204 PS (150 kW). Both petrol engine variants are equipped with the advanced MHEV plus system, which consists of components like a 48-volt battery, Riemenstartergenerator (RSG), and Triebstranggenerator (TSG), enhancing performance and reducing CO2 emissions.
This new technology promises various benefits from fully electric parking and low-speed driving to energy regeneration during deceleration, potentially recovering up to 25 kW. It will also help the car achieve significant electric driving shares during city traffic, improving overall fuel efficiency.
The interior of the A6 Avant boasts high-quality materials and impressive technological advancements, including the Audi MMI Panoramic Display and optional passenger display, measuring 10.9 inches for entertainment purposes. The cockpit design is user-centered, providing intuitive access to vehicle functions, enhancing the overall driving experience.
Lighting technology has become another focal point for the new model. Featuring seven digital light signatures—comprising active segments which intelligently dim according to road conditions—the A6 Avant is set to improve visibility and safety significantly. Its rear utilizes the latest digital OLED light technology, creating dynamic light signatures during operation.
Prices for the A6 Avant start at approximately 58,000 euros for the entry-level TFSI variant, with the diesel commencing at 61,700 euros. This pricing strategy reflects Audi's goal of maintaining competitive positioning without compromising on quality or technology standards within the burgeoning electric vehicle and hybrid markets.
Audi's commitment is evident as they continue to evolve the A6 Avant, reinforcing its status as not simply another station wagon, but as a key player within its market segment. This model signals Audi's entry back to meaningful innovation, representing both performance and luxury, balancing traditional combustion engines with advanced hybrid technology. With anticipatory enthusiasm, the market watches how the new A6 Avant will meet the expectations of its customers and how it will position itself against competitors like the BMW 5 Series.
