Astana Prepares For Grand Victory Day Parade

Military personnel and equipment ready for the 80th anniversary celebration of World War II victory

The capital of Kazakhstan, Astana, is gearing up for a grand celebration to mark the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The Ministry of Defense has announced that preparations for the military parade are well underway, with significant milestones already achieved.

On April 18, 2025, the Minister of Defense, Ruslan Zhaksylykov, received a report on the readiness of both personnel and equipment for the upcoming parade. This event is not just a display of military might; it serves as a tribute to the sacrifices made during World War II. The Minister visited the industrial town and field camp where intensive preparations are taking place.

According to General-Major Mereke Kuchukbaev, "From April 25, participants of the parade will begin joint training, which will involve military equipment and aviation. The general rehearsals will take place on May 3 and May 5 at Qazaq Eli Square in Astana." These rehearsals are crucial as they ensure that everything runs smoothly on the day of the parade.

More than 4,000 military personnel will participate in the May 7 parade, showcasing over 300 units of weapons and military equipment. Among the highlights will be models from the era of the Great Patriotic War, along with 60 aircraft from the front-line, army, and military transport aviation. This year’s event promises to be one of the most significant commemorations in recent history.

The Minister emphasized the importance of adhering to health protocols during this large gathering. He stressed the need for compliance with sanitary and epidemiological standards, ensuring a warm living environment for the personnel, and providing high-calorie meals to maintain energy levels. Maintaining discipline and law and order in the training camp is also a priority.

As preparations continue, the arrival of military helicopters, including Mi-17, Mi-35, and Mi-171Sh models, adds to the excitement surrounding the event. These aircraft have already landed in Astana and are set to play a vital role in the parade.

In addition to the military preparations, the weather forecast for April 18 predicts rain mixed with snow and freezing temperatures overnight in Astana and northern Kazakhstan. This could pose challenges for the ongoing preparations, but officials remain optimistic about the event.

The parade is not only a chance to honor the veterans of the Great Patriotic War but also serves to strengthen national pride and unity. As the nation reflects on its past, the event aims to inspire future generations to remember the sacrifices made for their freedom.

Overall, the upcoming parade in Astana is shaping up to be a significant event, combining military display with a poignant reminder of history. The Ministry of Defense is dedicated to ensuring that the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War is commemorated with the respect and honor it deserves.
